I think it's one of those moves where we get what he has left in the tank this season as Onana and Garner develop, then have him in the elder statesman role currently occupied by Coleman next season. We'll probably sign a mid or two, he'll make some spot appearances and act as cover, and that will be that.

It will be good for Lampard to have another committed voice in the dressing room that everyone will tell the young guys to listen to. One of Gerrard's big problems is that he doesn't have anyone like that to help smooth over the tiffs that invariably happen between players and the manager.

Two year deal is perfect. I wonder how his game has evolved since he left. I know he obviously spent a lot more time on the ball at PSG and his passing/possession statistics bear that out, but I wonder if he'll be a little more disciplined as a DM this time around as he gets older. Even if he's just a more mobile Allan, that's still a big improvement for us.
