So Brands is gone. You can argue he wasn’t given a real opportunity or the full control he needed, but ultimately he failed to stabilise the club and balance the squad with quality.

The lack of forward planning for Coleman, as well as the inability to sell anyone has really hindered us.

Do we stick with the director of football approach?

For me we definitely should. All in on Luis Campos. Unbelievable success at many clubs.

It looked like he was re-joining Real Madrid but it hasn’t materialised - could we tempt him with money and full control?
Interesting question, the hardest thing is knowing what a DOF at Everton actually does… He seems to not control anything or anyone.
Brands had a history of buying younger players and selling them on, he has zero chance to do that. Bill needs gone and the maybe a DOF comes in.
1st off we need a Chairman a proper one

1. New board appointed comprising exec and non exec members.
2. Board agrees football strategy to be implemented throughout the club.
3. Owner ratifies strategy.
4. Appointments made to suit the strategy, DOF or no DOF etc.

Hard to know whether Brands was useless or undermined. Taking a hefty pay packet when he was at odds with the direction of the club certainly didn't make him part of the solution though.

The steps above aren't rocket science, until the structure of the club is fixed and working to a defined strategy rather than lurching from one failed management regime to another every 12 - 18 months, we have no business actively recruiting another DOF.

If our recent history has taught us anything it is that doing the same thing over and over is leaving us right back where we started (if we are lucky) every couple of years. Therefore, it could be argued that if we want change the first criteria for any prospective hire is that they have no connection whatsoever with Everton Football Club.

Appointing another DOF would be a total waste of time and money if Moshiri is so insistent on interfering and dealing with agents himself. He couldn't scout Mbappe he is that clueless, and needs to stay right out of all football decisions.

What is the point in the role if he will go above their head on an impulse any time he gets the urge. What self respecting technical director would work under those circumstances either.

The system itself is fine, all the serious clubs have a DOF / Sporting Director / similar role nowadays, but we have to implement it right with the right person in the role and also above and below them. That's where the problems lie.

Isn't the Liverpool fella leaving in the summer, what are the chances?
