ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I was reading an article from that lot today. Now I'm not sure if it was trying to make a virtue out of a necessity, but the argument runs that Liverpool are transitioning this season in terms of the way they operate out of midfield.

They usually play with a very conservative and hard working m/f trio (the last edition being Fabinho/Henderson/Wijnaldum) content with providing the base for the FBs to get forward and join in with the attacking three. But now they're looking for a bit more from midfield in terms of goals, and one of them, Elliott (and Jones since Elliott was crocked) has been tasked with getting forward with the FBs.

That's going to place a lot more pressure on a defence who look all at sea. No wonder they look like conceding a lot of goals in most games. VVD looks lost and Roberston looks like he doesn;t know whether to stick or twist and has lost all confidence.

If that M/F change was the plan from Klopp he really needed to retain a work horse like Wijnaldum and ship out Henderson instead. Maybe 'captain of captains' Hendo has too much influence over there. The titty lip on him since the summer England friendlies suggests he's far from being a happy camper.

Herr Klopp has a 'players committee' of six players Henderson, Milner, VVD, TAA, Robertson and Allison - supposedly all there to help the decision making/leading on the pitch. A strong chance that there will be at least 5 wannabe captains on the same pitch at any one time. The phrase of 'too many cooks' springs to mind. Who leads who? The lunatics are running the asylum. Fingers crossed that it is a recipe for disaster.

Players committee.

Ha Ha.

What are they like.

Salah, Mane, Firmino, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain all out of contract in 2023

Can imagine Mane will want parity with Salah in any negotiations so not only will they have to break their wage structure once, they will have another dilema if they offer Mane less - do they break it for 2 players who will be 30/31 when their current deals expire?

Also, they need to offload Keita and AOC, both arnt worth new contracts as they are constantly injured, but cant see them getting much for either. Firmino has dropped quite a few levels from a couple years ago and again the wrong age.

Liverpool cant afford to sell Salah, but cant afford to keep him either as their whole model is sell to buy. But the others arnt as valuble plus if they look like they are touting Mane/Firmino/AOC etc to bring in money, you would just assume the players will then leave for free to choose their destination.

If Mane doesnt get what Salah gets he may leave for free. Same with Salah if they offer him pittance and he looks around the world at other players wages.

Very tricky situation for them

My feeling is this is why you are suddenly seeing a massive push about Salah, being allegedly as good as Messi or Ronaldo (clearly ludicrous). Not to say Salah isnt world class, and has almost single handedly carried Liverpool, but hes not in the above 2s league.

Anyway, I digress. I think they are hoping someone is stupid enough to give them 100m or so like Barca did for Coutinho. I'll be frank, I dont think anyone will, but that's the game that's being played here. I remember similar with Suarez, Sterling and Coutinho before. Desperately start overhyping them in the vain hope some sucker overpays.

Unfortunately Madrid and Barca are skint. Maybe City might come in, but would be a hard sell. Same with United.

My suspicion would be Madrid have grown quite canny, have tapped Mbappe up for next summer, and will say similar for Salah the year after. Offer him something daft like a 40m sign on, plus top wages.

The only worry is PSG replace Mbappe with him.

Top bracket players in their team and there is caveats on a lot of them.
Allison although his form has been shaky in 2021. What makes anyone think this? He conceded loads against the RS for Roma in the CL quarter final. Then the RS bought him and all of a sudden the RS media bought into it so now it's a facht. He's just a goalkeeper.
Alexander-Arnold offensively yes defensively he's not even average. Exactly, so how is he even thought of as being world class outside of the RS media?
Virgil van Dijk pre injury yes (he was OK but because he played for them the RS media told us that he was the best centre back ever). not sure he's going to get back to them standards he might just be a very good CB.
Fabinho along with Rodri best DM in PL. Who has decided this?
Salah seems to be on a 4 year golden streak. These things end hopefully sooner rather than later. Given that he is on this run and given that in every position (just about) they have the best players in the world (Robertson, Mane, Firminho/Jota as well as above) I really don't understand why they haven't won every match they've played for the last 4 years and won every trophy available over the same period.

The rest of their team is a very functional unit that knows their job. They have a couple of players as back up but their 2nd 11 isn't much better than ours.

Because they will get money for him and then the world will explode, or something like that!

It's a mad thread this, we want their best players to leave so that they're crap but we also want them to stay so they go bankrupt. They're skint but also they spend loads of money.

Can't get my head round being that arsed about them and everything they do, and my 2 lads support them ffs. Completely ignoring them has worked for me up to now (the RS, not my lads).

Yep, I just come on here to take the mickey out of them as a club, the fanbase, media drivel, etc. All the tactical analysis, ifs and buts of contracts/transfers, etc. generally washes over me.

I can't actually comment on them as a team as I have only watched them in the derbies for a very long time. Maybe the odd bit of a game here and there but we are talking around once a season.
