Everton Summer transfers 2021

...sometimes I take a step back and look at the mid-80s team as a decent blueprint.

The game is a bit quicker now but 3 of that back four had Rolls Royce engines. Two CMs who rarely crossed the half-way line but hunted in a pair and gave possession to players who play.

Two wide midfielders who made a telling contribution with goals and assists. A central striker in the DCL mould and one who plays off as a partner.

Perhaps we try and complicate things at times. I have no idea what shape that team was last night, except we generally had 9 players behind the ball.

I agree that good recruitment could change a lot. We need a right back as well as a right sided winger though. Coleman is fine to have around the club but we need a better long term option.
All about the lack of pace, we have to play that way currently getting behind the ball and playing counters to get results because we don't have the players to play a possession game currently, when we have tried to push up and attack at home we have been played around. It's because we lack movement, dynamism centrally or the wide outlets with pace from right back or on the wings so we have been heavily reliant on being defensive and using Digne's crosses set pieces from Sig or a moment from James to create something. I believe Carlo is cutting his cloth according to what he has. It has worked away it largely hasn't at home our form has been shocking there and Carlo needs to take as much of that as the players. Generally when teams give us the ball at home we can't break them down because we don't have the players or set up to play through or get round them. But it was deliberate last night because we adopted our away tactics and actually fought for the ball especially second half. Which I was happy with because that wasn't there against Sheff United. Agree we need to be much better next season and that it could be coaching as much as players but I think Carlo adapts to what he has in his squad, he is that kind of coach he doesn't have a set identity. At Christmas he made the decision to become more hard to beat. We need the players now to push on and control games more now. RB, CM, RW/FW minimum and depending what happens with Mina a CB with pace, leadership and dominance.

In all honesty, there isn't an Everton player I'd be desperate to retain. You know, desperate in the way we were to retain Rooney or Lukaku or to keep Cahill's career going.

We could sell the lot and start again and not lose any ground.

It's that poor.

Yeah I do agree which is a sad indictment.

But, we do have some talent so obviously would be better to keep hold of it.

It's like the James thing. I more hope he stays because I know, knowing us, we'd go and get a winger, powerful midfielder and good attacking right-back, but then next season be crying out for that sparkling of quality a player like James adds on top.

Keep using this metaphor with him, but it's like we've got the cherry before baking the cake.

.....I think so too.
I think Carlo hoped to get more out of Iwobi and there for a while in the first half of the season that looked like it might happen.
I think that was a belief that Richarlison could be used futher wide than we have seen and that Bernard might have made a bigger contribution.
If he knew then what he knows now, I wonder if the loan of Gordon would still have happened?

Pace and width are the things we need more than anything else.

Was saying this the other day. Bar Godfrey , Alan and maybe digne . I would be open to selling any of our squad

With most fans you see knee jerk reactions after a couple of poor results.

I would see PIckford, Keane, Godfrey, Digne, Doucoure, Allan , Richarlison, JR and DCL as key players.
I think that we will get more out of these and other players if they are joined by some more good signings.

Without being good enough to qualify for CL we have nevertheless being on the periphery of the chase for the top four all season.

The recruitment this season is crucial.

Do we kick on now or fall back .
I dont disagree. I remember we had players at Everton in 82/83 and thought getting rid of them was the way forward, but bringing in a few more players they later clicked and became champions. Nevertheless, this team could be sold en masse and I'd shrug my shoulders.

McBananaman would love to see Coutinho join the blues in the summer.

Well Steve, I couldn’t disagree more. We don’t need or want anymore Barca cast offs, never mind ones that are always injured!

Joe Willock could be a shout. 7 goals in 13 games, just 21 and proved to be a bundle of energy + fans favourite at Newcastle.

We don't do well with purchasing Arsenal cast offs. Plus I'd prefer no one in the league to buy their players to help them out financially. We shouldn't be financing rivals transfer plans.
He's only came to life the past 8-12 weeks for Newcastle, been doing nothing the rest of the time

Pereria would be a sensible signing who has played in the Premier League.

He would add goal threat to our team plus the financial risk is low.

We would be mad not to be in for him.
Feeling we're going to get priced out of that one.

Yes I like him, he can play wide and as a 10. Technically very good.
he wouldn’t be that cheap though 25mil at least I would guess. Unless he has a relegation clause
