I said before that I’d only keep Godfrey and DCL because it’s such an arse-ache buying guaranteed goals. The rest as you say are all massively replaceable
Yeah, DCL is *maybe* one you'd be arsed about retaining for that reason of goals, but even with DCL I'd never think to myself: 'we desperately have to ensure we keep hold of him'.

Btw, it speaks volumes about where we are after 5 years of massive spending that most people would see as key retaining the services of a player who cost £1.5M.

For sure if a classic Man United style big bid comes in I wouldn’t mind us selling him one bit, but I still have nightmares about the “replacing Lukaku” saga.

I don’t have any confidence in us to set up any kind of decent recruitment model like others in the division have and I think we’ll just throw money about hoping we get lucky a la Godfrey who let’s not forget, was a product of us messing up our main target and was a bit of a last minute panic buy.

Why frame it as a panic buy?

While a lot of our recruitment does frustrate me, the Godfrey deal is an example of how our recruitment should be working. Our first choice (Tomori) couldn’t be had due to Lampard messing the lad about, so we moved onto our second choice who falls into that same young, mobile and English centre half mould that we’d been targeting in Tomori.

The first choice was Gabriel who’s at Arsenal? Tomori was the season before.

With most fans you see knee jerk reactions after a couple of poor results.

I would see PIckford, Keane, Godfrey, Digne, Doucoure, Allan , Richarlison, JR and DCL as key players.
I think that we will get more out of these and other players if they are joined by some more good signings.

Without being good enough to qualify for CL we have nevertheless being on the periphery of the chase for the top four all season.

The recruitment this season is crucial.

Do we kick on now or fall back .

We got 4 in last summer and they all integrated fairly quickly
Another 4/5 first team era could be integrated fairly quickly as well
RB CB RW CM and a back up striker

I’ve watched the last couple of games and the backwards passing the sideways passing and we are completely devoid of any width.

absolutely shocking. Two decent wingers with pace transforms this slow, tortoise crab like football.

I agree that good recruitment could change a lot. We need a right back as well as a right sided winger though. Coleman is fine to have around the club but we need a better long term option.
