New Everton Stadium Discussion

When is the proverbial shovel going in to the ground? Any idea? Haven't been in here in a couple weeks and reckon would take me ages to go through everything.
They will have to take the water out of the dock ( and the fish and the rubbish and the dead bodies ) before they put a shovel in the ground
On a more serious note they have applied for permission to move the fish ( I kid you not ) and that permission will take a month to come through
They have employed an experienced Dutch dredging form to drain the dock

A new terminal will bring new lines and will serve a number of different transport options centrally, including additional capacity for existing solutions.

Liverpool Waters is essentially causing the city centre to shift northwards.
Slowly though and Big services always lag behind, through plain old inertia

Are there any actual references to a new rail terminal, and furthermore how this relates to BMD and increasing lines for merseyrail?

I've seen brief mentions of either extending Lime St, terminating at Edge Hill/Paddington, with one mention of reopening Exchange Station via a tunnel. There has been talk of reopening looplines for decades, but little solid evidence.

There was also speculation about expansion of Central to cope with increasing services.... perhaps a loop along the strand/docks between Sandhills and Brunswick could relieve pressure on central and allow greater access along the waterfront.

All talk and that's all it will continue to be.

Nobody really knows, me included.
But as somebody said just before, there will (could?) be a gradual...or not so gradual expansion/ drift of the 'city centre' northwards.
Again who knows, digging tunnels isnt cheap or quick and some somebodies have to see a need to justify the cost.
Then start the planning ball rolling...
Inertia.

From a club document.
'' Within the phase one we intend to establish habitats for sea birds - such as cormorant rafts in the adjacent docks and waterbodies - erect stabilisation structures to protect the hydraulic tower, we'll safely remove all fish from the dock, repair the dock walls before infilling with sand and we'll construct a northern isolation structure to Sandon half-tide dock channel entrance.

"All before we sensitively infill the dock with half a million tonnes of sand, which is harvested from river Mersey estuary in the most environmental and sustainable manner, the methodology has been devised to give the option to - if required - reverse the construction process allowing the dock to be returned to its original state."

Another first for Everton - cormorant rafts .

The expansion of Central Station is happening as we speak. Data capture has been completed and designs are in process. Not sure of dates, but if you cant see progress already, you will soon.

Exchange station won't reopen, and Lime Street can't host trains of HS rail size. There was early talk of bringing Lime Street out forwards and using the space where the road sits, but that ideas been kaiboshed.

The bulk of the city centre will always be where it is now. The redevelopment of the South Docks through to Albert Dock and including the Baltic triangle hasn't prompted any major new infrastructure. Even if Liverpool waters progresses as hoped it will probably not shift that centre of gravity that much. So far it hasn't even merited a new small station at Vauxhall. If we are going to recreate Canary wharf type size/density then it may merit a realignment of some sort, but the last few revised iterations have been a pale shadow of those initial renders from over 10yrs ago.

If it all takes off and is a success, then nothing will succeed like success.
This, presumably is Usmanov and Moshiri's hope - getting in on the ground floor.

Where did you hear this about Central station? I've heard talk and a couple of press releases and reports of lobbying central government for the money but nothing concrete (forgive the pun) regarding any specific plans. Do you have some inside information?

That is true they have applied for the Maritime Permit.

Don't forget Bri, we've got to relocate all the Cormorants to new nesting sites as well. Much easier in recent history, when all a "football club" had to do was turf all the local residents out around the area...
