I'm stretching my memory here but, although he was a prolific scorer for us, the club felt they had to let him go because of his increasingly 'strange' behaviour. Team mates just thought he was certifiably mad. He did go to Oz, met up with his brother and, allegedly, murdered him. He would have hanged but there was some Old School Tie footwork from Everton which got the Oz government out of a hole ... we praised his good character and whatnot. That, together with some sort of very slim evidence in his favour saved his neck.

I bet Ned Kelly wished he had Everton on his side down under back in the 1880s :Blink:
