There's plenty of work for Brands to do in the market if he's serious about 7th, let alone anything higher. Take out the three new boys - and injury will take some or all of them out at various points - and we are cruising into a battle for 12th. We need at least two new defenders (centre-back and right-back) and another attacker. I'm also pretty sure we've got a problem on our hands in goal. There's plenty of talent there, but the lack of a functioning brain is not something you can coach into a player. We need a proper goalkeeper, not somebody more comfortable in a big top.

I fear that the excellent work we have done in the market this month could give some cover to a drawing in of our horns right at the moment we need to follow up and consolidate the first team with further quality. We've got too much incompetent dross in the side - not only the squad - when James and Allan are out. As exciting as these signings have been, we're running to stand still if we let it at that.

Still some key areas we need investment in.

Stop patting our backs with the midfield signings and ensure we tighten up at the back and some options up top / out wide.

We're trying

As Carlo just said, we have too many players.

We probably have money for a loan and maybe a few mil spare which will probs now have to go to a GK late in the window.

Need to get rid of at least 6.

OUTS
Lossl (need a GK in though)
Pennington
Besic
Bolasie
Walcott
Delph

Those six are the starting points.

Walcott will probably be kept unless we can get a winger in too, though.

They all need to go one way or the other. It's easier said than done, there needs to be clubs wanting them.

It's their wages which are the main issue.

Sandro
Bowler
Benningime
Connolly

All surely on the way out too
