Cycling thread

Pogacar 6.9w/kg on that climb, trouncing the best climbers in the world. After bettering them on the flat TT run up. From a man not known as a world class ITTer.

I'm calling now that something doesn't smell right this Tour.

Whatever covid mutated EPO these guys have been on this tour Ineos certainly havent had access... Wanted to see a real peak Bernal this tour with him as the certified leader, shame it didn't happen.

I can just imagine the comments had he been riding for the Brailsford team.
When did Froome do something equivalent to today? He won by being consistently the best, taking time over the full 3 weeks.

I stand to be corrected, but I don't think he ever produced figures like Pogacar did today (and for a 20 minutes stint after riding threshold for 40).

I'm not saying some of the Sky performances weren't questionable, but they were nothing like today.

Well I have to say I really enjoyed that from Pogacar , I even got Mrs blueloon watching once I explained the jersey situation , Pogacar having no chance at the start , then it became enthralling tv viewing . Really pleased for Ritchie Porte too. Some great racing on this Tour away from the GC stuff.
Reading the comments above on Pogacar though it does seem a bit like VAR in football, you enjoy the moment , marvel at the sporting achievement , applaud it then hesitate while someone confirms it was legitimate. I’m a non cyclists , I just enjoy the top levels of many sports so I’m taking it as a great performance until proved otherwise.

For sure - he's up to his eyeballs in cyclejuice

It was certainly one for the ages, although you cant read too much into GT TTs wrt to the field imo, its often only a handful of riders who are really going for it. Recall Contador burying prime Cancellera in a TdF TT for example. Or Alaphilippe last year.

Pogacar has been awesome all Tour tho, won it on his Jack Jones. Who was the last rider to do that? David de la Cruz did his best for him but mostly it was him getting up in JV's buisness all by himself.

Felt bad for Roglic. Its not like he fell to bits, fifth on the day, just picked the wrong day to be at 98%. Didn't seem to be able to articulate what went wrong, dont know if he was just in shock or if it was the language barrier but he just sounded blank.
