You would think with the mid season break due to the virus, that Ancelloti (who had been here for 3 months) had told Brands what he needed and who he wanted. It is scandalous that pre-season is back underway and we still haven’t strengthened. It’s all very well saying, well other teams haven’t signed players blah blah blah. But we finished the season getting turned over by a relegated team at home and only just beating the team that finished bottom. Brands should have been more proactive as soon as the window opened to get the players in Carlo needs.
Exceptionally naive view of how transfers work .
You can’t buy what someone isn’t ready to sell.
You can’t just pay what the seller wants without potentially limiting your spend in other areas.
You have to be able to negotiate multiple targets at the same .
On top of which Everton aren’t the most attractive proposition at this moment in time.

EVERTON, WATFORD NOT CLOSE ON DOURCOURE FEE

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show:

"Everton remain in talks with Watford over Abdoulaye Doucoure. As it stands, the clubs are some way apart in their valuations.

"Watford value Doucoure at £35m and they are very relaxed with the situation at the moment. Yes, Doucoure wants to leave the now-relegated club, but he’s still got three years remaining on his contract that works in Watford’s favour.

"Another player Everton are interested in is the Napoli midfielder Allan. No agreement on a fee on that one, but the player will travel on Napoli’s pre-season training camp.

"Allan did play under Everton’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti when he was at Napoli so reasons to be cautiously optimistic that Everton might make a few signings in the next couple of weeks."

Relaxed? He can just rot in the Championship for 3 year's and leave for nothing then.

As if they have the upper hand.

We really are skint aren’t we? Thinking it’ll be Allan and then loans. Bit of a shock, I was expecting us to splash the cash, why sign ayrton senna and make him drive a fiesta?

Skint? No.
Unable to spend what we want? Yes.

The end result is the same, certainly in the short term. But If we could afford Ancelotti and convince him to sign, I would suggest the chances of us being skint are very slim.

Barcelona on the other hand. The fact they have brought in a manager like Koeman, and given him the remit to empty the squad, suggests they are really struggling. He is their Sam Allardyce, have no doubt about it. A temporary fall guy they can afford while the rebuild takes place. The fact he is a former player is a convenient excuse.

If they do sell Messi, it will all but confirm where they are. And as big as they are, and as much as they've won, they got there by paying what was needed to sign players, regardless of the price. There is talk of cancelling contracts of players, that's a drastic step. The rebuild there could be a big one.

Yes transfers don’t happen overnight, but we’ve had neatly 5 MONTHS since the lockdown started. You can be assured ancelloti will have assessed the squad and told Brands what/who he wanted in this period. If we can’t agree fees we move onto other targets. I grant you we are not an attractive proposition, but we will be in a relegation fight with this current squad.
