I didnt mention his position.

I replied to a post that we were replacing Gana with a player that is younger and cheaper plus not bad business.

Gana put fires out all over the show and allowed Gomes a totally free reign.
Just hope this lad can do the same.
As I said ...gorra trust Brands on this.

I don't really agree with this. I think this fabricated version of what Gueye did, based on his own admittedly impressive individual stats, is part of the reason he's developed this over exaggerated reputation.

It's been discussed at length and there seems to be 2 very distinct schools of thought on the subject, but I definitely think there is scope for us to improve in his absence with the right kind of player coming in, regardless if he puts up the same numbers.

I'd certainly hope there is anyway, as we have been largely average to terrible in the time he was here.

*Disclaimer* - I'm not saying we were terrible BECAUSE of him, just that he didn't necessarily improve us by doing what he did so well.

The idea is to dominate the ball so you don’t have as many fires to put out. How many times have we struggled to break team down at home who park the bus. Gana’s a very good player, but overrated imo. And I think silva does want us to become possession based, which does really fit with gana.

I disagree, I think his ability to do Gomes' running and tackling was a massive part of our set up last year. That doesn't mean we can't improve by changing to a different set up, but I think it's wrong to say he didn't do it, because he quite clearly did if you either watch the games or look at the stats. Also harsh to say we were average to terrible in the time he was here. It's true, to an extent, but in the 3 seasons he was here we finished higher than in the 2 seasons before he came. So saying he didn't improve us doesn't really work either. He's gone now, and hopefully we can take this as an opportunity to get better, but he was good for us. It's why he's gone to a better team, and for a fee that everybody quite readily agrees you don't normally get for someone his age.

Having been to a grand total of 3 Mainz games in the last 2 years, I think it’s clear I’m the forum expert on this guy.

He’s been Alright when I’ve seen him, that’s all I can say really. He’s quite eye catching because of his size and running style, but nothing in the games I’ve seen has particularly made him stand out to me. Last time I went he was up against Denis Zakaria who I know a lot rate highly, but I wouldn’t say there was much between them that day.

When I heard we were after someone from Mainz I thought it might be the centre half, Niakhaté, who I really liked the look of. Touch of the zoumas about him.

I'm not sure you fully understand what Gana brings to any team not just us.

Thats why one of the worlds biggest clubs and a highly respected coach as in Tuchel wanted him so badly.
I'm not knocking any new player coming in or the system changing but they will have mighty big boots to fill.
Massive miss for us Gana , make no mistake.

Again i'le end with got to trust Brands on this.
