I strangely like him without thinking he's that good. My word does he go missing in games though. Been doing some research and he was nearly always barely touching the ball for Ajax.

The funny thing is, Sigurdsson does exactly the same for Swansea. So our two main attacking creative threats in midfield both struggle to get involved with buildup. Fabberoo.

Both players can 'pop up' with a goal or assist. Just not entirely sure what Koeman expects the team to be doing the rest of the time

Really interesting.. Thanks ;)

Fantastic this mate, really goes to show that if you actually watch and analyse a game rather than pretend to be using an MRI scanner to assess Davy "Aristotle" Klaassen's football brain you can see how uninfluential he is.

The lad had 14 goals and 10 assists from 33 appearances for Ajax in the league last season. Some pretty solid statistics for someone who barely touches the ball and goes missing.

He was one of our better players in the first leg and whilst he didn't do a lot in the away leg, no one really did. He had very little attacking support around him and played in a defensive line up/tactic.

I'm still excited!

He still does good things when he has the ball. It's just odd how little he has it. Bear in mind also that Ajax is a different, and very width orientated system, and he's very much still finding his feet here, so it may well not pan out like this. Same applies to Sigurdsson re: Swansea being a different team.

I just can't shake the nagging feeling that Koemans recruitment policy has just been filtering a Whoscored spreadsheet by position, sorting by 'goals scored' or 'assists' and going down the list until he finds one that will come to us.

My worry is that he needs a huuuuuge amount of unmarked space to operate in. He'd have got that in abundance in Holland - when I've watched it it's end to end, wingers, chaaaaaaaarge all over the shop. Absolutely no surprise that the one piece of good work he did last night - the pass to Calvert-Lewin - he'd been afforded loads of space by Rooney dragging in 2-3 players and playing a clever pass. So he's going to need players doing all the legwork for him and stretching the play; would you say width and pace describes the way a Koeman team is setup? Not for me. Feels like a bit of a white elephant of a signing.

Frandel?

Can we not be on different sides of this war?

Klaassen was not my favourite player at Ajax, but I have to admit he has been very important for us, especially after the winter break. At Ajax he had the same stats as you see above, but some things just go unnoticed by stats. Just don´t expect he will go through 3 players. His technique is functional not for show and he´s a very quick thinker and his lines are of high quality. I reckon he could be a favourite for many Everton supporters.

He can operate fine without space due to his one touch passing, maybe you are getting him mixed up with that wet mess Rooney.

Spot on, you make the point really well.

Surely Koeman must have a plan/vision of how it will work because it isn't obvious how any of the attacking players he has signed will fit into any kind of formation.

The only way I can see it work is with a big physical presence knocking the ball down to Klaassen and Sigurdsson who are good at ghosting into the box. But even then I don't really see where they'd fit into a formation. Possibly Klaaseen in front of Gana/Scheniderlin with Sigurdsson on the left and Sandro/Rooney out of position on the right.

But will knock downs from a big man really work in this day and age?
