Dont get ahead of ourselves on lookman just yet, just wait and see before we declare him a star,This is the same ronald koeman that wasnt playing Sadio Mane last year also,Looks like skilful players aint his cup of tea.I am all for hard work and putting the shift in but its players with quality at the end of the day that will bring everton to the next level.Gerard seems to have no problem competing the 90 mins in Italy and is a better player for it too
He got subbed after about 70 on Sunday, it was a nice finish - but atrocious defending.

I don't think Koeman doesn't like skilful players, but I do think he expects them to put a shift in too! The thing he had put up at Finch Farm sums his mindset up perfectly. "hard work will always beat skill, if skill doesn't work hard"! I honestly can't see anything wrong with that mentality?

Yes I think he wants his 11 players to all work as a unit rather than have individuals to win games. It is limited as an approach if they unit doesn't win but if the bigger picture is that we become tough to beat and improve certain areas over time then it would only take one good few months of consistency for it to pay off. I'd rather have 11 men playing for each other than having 2-3 men expected to win the game for us

Not sure I agree with the criticism of Koeman as being a manager who doesn't appreciate skill.

Lookman, so far, has been one of the best players with the ball at his feet, Mirallas and Barkley are no slouches in that regard.

What Koeman can't tolerate is someone who has some skills but can't last 60 minutes or put in a consistent shift, as with Deulofeu.

I still think one of the reasons he let him go and didn't play him is because he fully expects Barcelona to buy him back. No point building a team with him in it for Barcelona to get him back on the cheap.

The big difference between him and Lookman for me is that when Lookman loses the ball he works hard to win it back again. Geri meanwhile would sulk and throw his toys out the pram while the bloke he's lost it to is free to start a counter attack. Therefore shipped out for not putting the effort in.
