I love how Martinez's ambition for Champion's League is now being thrown back in his face because he actually set a tough expectation for himself.

Shame on him for raising expectations among the masses.

Much rather have a dour soul in charge patting us on the head telling us we are punching above our weight.

Yes he went into an interview claimed he could increase performance to get the job but 3 years in he hasn't

Any manager (not just football) would be gone

Well he still might with the Cup...but yeah. Much easier digesting plucky little Ebepton...I use the exact same strategy at work...under promise and over deliver. It is a proven strategy I've used for 20+ years.

For what it's worth mate. Can we not as evertonians have to differ the plight of undervaluing ourselves?

Moyes was great for 6 years and to went stale soon after the FA Cup final.

Martinez promised us something great, but what we've had is very different. The players don't look fit, nor do they look remotely interested. We slagged off Moyes for his negativity, and one dimension esque style. Yet Martinez is so tactically stubborn, it's forcing himself out of the club.

I think Martinez has lost to much now already. It'd take a lot for the fans to be won over now, even a cup run would only temporarily paper over the cracks.

But despite this being just a forum, a telling sign is that nearly 70% on here (some may not be active who voted initially against him being sacked too) want him to be replaced (or eat cheese on toast), I can't see him ever bringing the good times and he should duly be sacked now.

Who's throwing those words back in his face? While I thought he was talking fluffity fluff at the time to BK to get the job, I had no problem with such an ambition.
As @bluewally said above though, there comes a time, even at Everton thankfully we now have a new owner, when performance accountability is a relevant concept.

An f a cup win will bring the fans back easily

Genuine question: this place for the past few weeks - is it really possible to have a debate? Honestly?

Dave you say you are interested in debate but you ignore posters when they make arguments you can't refute or you say pffft or sigh.

You don't debate points that take into account the quality of the victories and act as if beating Dagenham is the same as beating Chelsea

Dave we have beaten 2 teams who were above us in the league

You mention 2 cup runs when in reality in the league cup we were knocked out by the first decent team we met. We were lucky we didn't meet a good team earlier in the comp. it really is not a sign of progress

You bring up his first season and his average win %.
You say he is being judged by a different standard to other managers.
Yes he made claims which he hasn't fulfilled but what he is really being judged on is
5th -> 11th -> 12th
Is top half too much to ask (and please stop trying to whitewash 12th as mid table, technically right but come on we're bottom half)

Debate is 2 way Dave. You can't make claims and then fail to acknowledge others rebuttals. Pfft, sigh, fumeaggedon, plotters have no place in debate.

If your facts (opinions aren't facts) don't speak for themselves and stand up to scrutiny then don't resort to blowing people off.

Plenty make valid rebuttals of your arguments which you ignore and repeat the same pointless fact.

Of course it will, the fans are deperate for silverware and if Martinez does this and we are in Europe, thisy will give him time from the fans.

Definitely not. It might give him time from some fans who don't have the ability to look at the long term future of the club. The FA cup won't look so shiny from the championship

Doesnt matter anyway as we won't win the cup but I'm just stating a cup win will do alot of bonding between manager and fans.

Winning the FA Cup will just be sticking a bandage on a gaping wound that requires an experts attention to mend and nurse back to good health. When we're still crap next season the FA cup will be a distant memory.
