I believe the club have been fighting tooth and nail to keep him. The reasons given for doing so make sense (we want to progress, we don't have cover at CB, etc). And if we'd wanted to sell we could easily have done a deal by now.
If we'd sold him a month ago it would have been a dark day, but we could have spent the month rebuilding and getting ourselves back in shape for the season. If we sell anytime now it will be a huge defeat, it will feel like the season is over before its begun, and I'm afraid it would really affect the confidence of the players. Just keeping him against all the odds and all the expectations would be a great victory in itself.

To be fair though mate he has a role in the club as is probably an employee, frankly id say hes more ITK then anything we've read about Lescott in a long time.

Mark Hughes has accepted that Joleon Lescott is Everton's player to sell or keep as they please, and judging from his comments in today's interviews with the press, it would look like Everton have decided to keep him.
The last six months has seen increasing speculation in the media that Lescott will sign for City, with The Sun even reporting that he could be unveiled at City's stadium today as a City player. Hughes, however, stated a much different opinion.
"The player is Everton's player. It's their decision," he told what must have been a stunned group of reporters, although rumours that one stormed out to get a refund on his Man City shirt with Lescott on the back have been denied (which probably means it's true if The Sun deny it!)
"The situation, as you already know, is basically that we've put bids in for the player. They've been rejected and that's where we are.
"There's no update. I haven't heard anything that I can really tell you to add to what you already know. That's the situation as we find ourselves."

You should have seen the Mark Hughes interview today. Personally it was great knowing those shitey fans turning up hoping that Lescott would be unveiled before their eyes. And Siteh fans say they're not arrogant.
Anyway, Oh, I wish that I was an interviewer. Through his mumble, I gathered that the situation remain as per last week, therefore no new bids had been made. He didnt withdraw his persuit, but did say "well he's an Everton player". At last some humility!!!
No journalist asked him if he expected to make another bid. What a bloody obvious question to not ask!!! Anyway, its clear that Lescott is his no 1 defensive target, even though he's looking to bring in more quality.
I loved it when it seemed like the phrase "we've made two bids which were rejected" was dragged out of him. He really didn't want to say too much on the issue.
Personally, there are now only three ways this oculd go;
1. Everton are already in negotiations (siteh have decided to act like a footie club)
2. A deal will happen, but not til January
3. Siteh will quietly drop its persuit.
I expect Lescott to start the season with us, and I hope that he is not bood.

Sauce please. It was an intervew where to me, he looked defeated. I could be wrong, but his body language on the issue wasn't positive.

Fair comment, and I know Sharpy is used for the spin. But Sharpy is also a bit of a loose cannon sometimes and says what he's thinking or, worse, "feeling". Mainly this is confined to commentary on matches.
At the end of the day, we're all guessing on what's going on. My take is that it's correct that Joleon wants to move (90,000 good reasons for that) but he's also reticent to get on the bad side of the club and fans. I think he likes us.
It's a [Poor language removed] situation to be honest. if he does go, I hope it doesn't get messy like with a few others that have left for money or success.

The interview snippet was posted on NSNO - take it for what it's worth. Hope this marks the end of the Sheik's patience or willingness to spend more $$$$. Think it would be safe to say that if Lescott stays, Everton will pen him to a new deal with a nice wage bump - not anywhere close to what MCFC were allegedly offering but a little somthin' somthin'
