Leighton Baines

I hope Martinez has had a severe word with Baines today that diving is unacceptable
Didn't see it but obviously not what we want. Did he get booked for it?

Hope he had a severe word with how he's played recently too.
Well below normal levels.
Agree. He's not been poor this season, but certainly way below his usual standard. His two free kicks against WHU were obviously class, but aside from that can anybody remember any real quality pieces of play from him?

Baines has been incredibly poor this season...the whole will he go or will he stay has seen a significant dip in his level of play...I have said this in a couple of posts allready, that Martinez should never have dropped Oviedo for Baines when Baines was fit again after the injury...many people on here did not agree, but every week, bar the two free kicks, he has been absolute shyte...sorry Leighton, either sort out your shyte, or get some splinters up your arse...i'm tired of your poor standard of play every week...[names of people and places have been changed to protect innocent people involved]...

I think actions, in this case really did speak louder than words, when Baines got injured, was it really any surprise that we played our best football of the season? Stoke, United, Arsenal, Fulham and Swansea, were when Oviedo was in. I love Baines, but when Oviedo came in, i think most Evertonians were shocked, by the end, I was kind of wishing a new Baines bid by United, because Oviedo was excellent defensively, and going forward. As a Left winger, he's no where near as effective.

If i was Oviedo, i'd be fuming, cause he was great in all 5 of those, and instantly got dropped, for a man, who two free-kicks a side, has really done nothing constructive all season. I'm sure he'll come good, but it's just harsh on Oviedo.

THIS; incredible run we were on, and Oviedo was playing out of his skin...this is probably the only critisism I have of Martinez...favouritism...Baines [he's an icon, best leftback in Europe...have to get him on a long term contract]...wake up call, he's been shyte this season...Oviedo is streets better than him, ON CURRENT FORM. stop with the bloody favouritism to the detriment of the team, and the possible Champions League place...Cmon, there is no place for favouritism in this day and age...oh, and stop starting Osman please while you're at it...

Couldn't agree more with those comments.

Oviedo has been harshly treated and the left hand side hasn't looked as secure at the back or effective in attack since Baines just walked back into the team.

Baines has been off form, maybe getting the contract situation out of the way will help. He'd have to be a lot worse and for a lot longer for me to start saying he is playing "shyte" as some above say.

Also Ste okay we get it, you think diving is okay because everybody does it. Most people think it isn't. It's not a proven way to win titles, no more so than being good at playing an offside trap....it's just one part of the game.

I dont see the logic in keeping Baines. Are we really a club who can afford to bust the bank to keep a 29 year old on a long term megabucks contract?? A left back can only have so much influence on a game and I think we played our best football of the season when Baines was injured. When he plays we go through him too often and it ends up with us becoming predictable and playing worse football. Surely if we can get something like 12 million for him now at the age of 29 it must make more sense than keeping him on a huge contract??? I mean I would actually drop him on current form as I would feel more confident with Oviedo in the team.

Nothing like Suarez dive. Not a trip. Reid blocks Baines with the upper body contact, so Baines went down.

Bit of a non event, don't know why its it the news.

and also Baines went to ground because there was no way he was going to get the ball back. WBA player already had it
