Sir Landon Of Donovan

Kay seriously screw the LD vs Demps thing. You think LD will be here December 2012 or December 2013 or never on a perm....

I don't mind debating it because there's so much you can find on the internet. But I probably should let it die in this thread, you're right. Okay.

I think his decision on when he comes will come down to:
1) Does LA win the CCL? If yes, he'll be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in December. At that point, I could see him coming.
2) If LA doesn't win the CCL, could get interesting and lead to...
3)...how does the US do in qualifying? If Landon feels he needs to keep up his form because the US is struggling in qualifying, I could also see him coming. If the US rolls through (doubt it), less pressure.
4) Rumors about LA acquiring another DP in 2013. Keane isn't going anywhere, and Becks will be around another year. So if there are rumors, means LD is gone.

He'll be doing some thinking this year, that's for sure.

Good sum up Kay. I also get the feeling like he's going to want to move on to Everton after this upcoming season for the Galaxy. It seems like he's thinking that way and everything seems to be aligned for that to happen.

One last thing from me on the Deuce vs Landy debate, comparing the two is an apples to oranges comparison, but Landon is the tastier fruit.

and no I'm not gay... :P

Always been a big LD fan through watching him play for the US.

I knew he'd make the grade in England. You could just tell from his skill, vision and intelligence on the ball.

I hope we do get to sign him permanently, fingers crossed next winter. Hoping the MLS will come to an agreement with Everton due to his loyalty to them over the years.

Only if cheap, he's nearly over the 30 hill.

Landon could force a move if he really wanted to.

I just don't think he wants to or at least feels like he could at this juncture. But you can never say never.

The key word is "appeared". As stated who knows the ceiling for Landon if he'd spent the last 5 years in the PL. Look what it did for Dempsey. I mean by the same token couldn't it have said the same thing about demps and his time in the MLS until he made the move. Also, this one here is classic.
You state this, "Klinsmann will deal with wherever LD plays and like it. He has not commented on where Landon plays." Uh, hate to burst your bubble but in your very own earlier post it says this?

"But that is a minor drawback compared to the benefits of playing in Europe with new U.S. coach Juergen Klinsmann urging his players to seek experience in the big leagues to boost the national team’s prospects at major tournaments.

"It's obviously not possible for everyone but that's his (Klinsmann's) desire," Donovan said. "

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the defense rests.

MLS hasn't appeared to stunt his growth - and he's provided plenty to the USMNT - I think you would agree that he has provided the most to that team at least. Other Americans for sure have mentioned it, and they are usually huge Dempsey supporters. The other way around typically doesn't happen. Huge Donovan fans tend to like Dempsey as well. Huge Dempsey fans tend to slam LD.

Klinsmann will deal with wherever LD plays and like it. He has not commented on where Landon plays. You don't shunt your leading goal scorer and assist provider because he plays in MLS. Especially when he's currently on fire. When Bob benched Landon during the Gold Cup the PR was not pretty, in particular when Sacha Kljestan stunk up the joint when he started against Panama in LD's place, and was quickly hooked off at halftime. Jurgen is not going to cut off his nose to spite his face. As long as Landon doesn't take 4 months off during the winter and trains somewhere, he'll have a red carpet rolled out to join the national team. And that's the way it should be when you're involved in >50% of the scoring plays the US has (there was a ridiculous stat leading into the world cup about this but I'm too lazy to find it right now).

Dude...give it a rest...they are both boss...yes, CD can get a goal, and works as hard as anyone, but LD is the better overall player...if you doubt that, then you simply are not watching the same sport as everyone on the face of planet Earth.

That quote you gave me from my own post wasn't a direct reference to where Landon plays, as in "Landon plays for MLS so...". He is not in the same category as Brek Shea and Juan Agudelo - players who that post does apply to. And since it's already been noted by Bruce Arena that LD's been called up against Italy, Jurgen doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about this particular player's team. I still see no stats to refute my claims.

We clearly disagree, I'm going to let this die now because the Everton forum also could give a rat's ass about this particular topic.
