Sir Landon Of Donovan

I thought the same thing about his legs but it's typical for Landon to get lost in USMNT games. It's one of the more frustrating things about Landon along with being a little to unselfish at times. It's frustrating to watch Everton use the left side so much. I think that's partly Landon's fault for not making him self available.

Shaggy, come on. It's a USMNT fallacy that's been debunked the last few years via his assist record and the fact that everyone notices when he doesn't show because "as LD goes, the USMNT goes". I don't want to debate it here cause it's not the place.

Everton used the left side a lot today because Pienaar was bright. Landon was not.

He had a crap game after a series of solid games. And I do think it's because he didn't show enough for the ball today. That's it.

Tidy in possession and good interplay.

I agree with this but it happened so few times, that's the frustrating part.

Everton better not get Landon on another loan deal. Either buy him or let him freakin go. It's apparent that when the ball goes through Landon's feet Everton plays a hell of a lot better. They can't restructure their offense around a guy who plays 10 games a year for them.

Even before Pienaar got here Everton forces it down the left side. Is that because Baines is the best on the team, or because they have no one on the right when Donovan isn't here?

The reason I feel Donovan was poor was due to that fact he didn't show enough. Other than that I don't have a problem with his play.

Haven't read all this thread but Donovan had a great game against Fulham, a good second half against City but the rest he has been just ok, nowhere near as good as his last loan spell, Everton would have played 'a hell of a lot better' If Donovan had been subbed for Drenthe today. Just my opinion of course!

To answer your questions - before LD was here Baines was our ONLY attacking threat, so yes, everything went through him. Before Pienaar went today, LD had every assist since he got here, so things were more balanced, that's what he gives us.

Not what the stats show (Villa game? Remember that?). He's been more instrumental this time, providing all of our assists up until today, and at a rate better than anyone in the Prem. Yes, anyone.

With all of that said, he was crap today. He plays better than that, and he knows it. Might have been tired, might have been not arsed, might have been cold...whatever. Yuck game.

Some folks are saying you take your leading assist provider off for Drenthe. Imo, no. You don't put Neville on in the first place, you put Drenthe on, and move LD to the center behind Jelavic. All your weapons on, not one of them off.

Isn't Ashley Cole still out from his red card? If so, we should be abusing their LB against Chelsea next week.

Drenthe must not try hard in training or he doesn't listen to Moyes when on the pitch. I can't fathom how he doesn't play more. Drenthe loses the ball a lot but that's easy to over look, IMO.

Chill Kay. Anyone who is denying Donovan's massive impact is either blind or just trying to downplay his effectiveness so it hurts less when he leaves!

Landos been pretty good, I like his workrate but I disagree him being our only attacking threat, we have a few and Royston for example is as much of an efficient attacking threat and creative outlet as Landon has been, albeit a less composed one. I think Royston is still our leading assist provider and the fact he hasn't been a bit gash lately is because Landon is playing in his position. I think why Landon was subdued today was because we had no one distributing the ball centrally and Pienaar seemed to work good to create space on the left. And combining with Neville isn't too sexy either.

Specifically speaking about the USMNT, there is no comparable away game in Europe than what specifically the US face in one of those Central American countries or playing in ground zero hell on earth itself, Mexico City's Azteca Stadium. There simply isn't a comparison, it is perhaps the most advantageous home crowd anywhere.

There are some very bitter rivals throughout the world, Brazil-Argentina, England-Germany, France-Italy, Spain-Portugal - but the one team in CONCACAF which is probably the biggest rival of all the major teams in the region is the US.

To Americans it's Mexico that's the main rival. However, to all the bigger teams of the region, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica... etc. ALL of them consider the US their biggest rival (only the El Salvador/Honduras rivalry even approaches it). So the US is facing 5 or 6 teams each time it goes through qualification rounds who are looking back at them as their respective biggest qualifying game. These games are played at a different level of hostility than European qualifiers, some even played in remote jungle stadiums with primitive facilities that host countries purposely pick in order to rattle US teams.

So, someone thinking that American teams have an 'easier path' than the European teams in getting through to a WC aren't taking reality into account.

Don't think anyone suggested that tbf.

You can only get 11 players on the pitch. No-one will agree all the time that they are the right 11. With Pienaar back now, Drenthe might not get much playing time until LD goes, which is fairly soon anyway.

Yea, I remember the villa game, great thru ball for vic to run on to but other than that I tought he was OK, not terrible, not great. Like Gibson against city, sure he scored but I don't think he had a great game. In my book we would have been better served sticking another hundred thousand on our bid for McClean from Derry City.

No worries. I hate that statement for the USMNT.

And I do post in here to recognize when he has a *hitola game like today. I want to be balanced and make sure folks can see that I criticize as well as support.

He was praised by multiple outlets for being the best player on the pitch. No idea who McClean is.

Why couldn't Drenthe, Pienaar and Donovan play at the same time. I can think of a few players that don't need to be on the pitch.

Us Evertonians are only being teased having a player like him at the club.Really would like him to sign as we all would gona be really disappointed when he goes.
