ffs, at the end of the day he's controlled a ball and passed it 5 yards for gibbo to shoot and score.. any player from the age of 16 up can be expected to control a ball and pass it 5 yards.... if they can't do that simple thing they shouldnt be playing top level football.. lets please try and keep some perspective for crying out loud.

Sir that pass was only 4 1/2 yards...

I'm convinced LD ran over your dog.

Whilst not as big a success as his first time here, he's definitely been a big factor in our recent resurgence. Too bad he will cost money, I'd have him here long term for sure.

Disagree similar to ilikecheese. The first time out he looked better over 90 minutes agree, but he didn't shoulder the creative burden. This time out he's driving our offense (and playing exactly how he does with the USMNT - it's eerie). Think it's a better stint as a result.

Shifting gears a little, now that the window has closed, it is too late for us to get him on a transfer, or can we still buy him from MLS because he is still serving out his loan?

We can extend his loan through the end of the season until the next window.

Example: Omar Gonzalez from the LA Galaxy was supposed to be on loan to Nurnberg through the rest of the Bundesliga season, and if he did well, he would have been purchased in the summer.

For the right price, you extend his loan in Feb through June. Then purchase in July.

Course, that assumes we have any money left for the "right price."

The Shin Guardian:
Hypothetically, can everton extend the loan a month somehow?
@shinguardian
The Shin Guardian @njbuzz19 yes, that's not a problem -- they can extend it all season at the right price too.

I honestly don't believe it will ever come that far into contract talks. He just doesn't want to leave LA on a full time basis. I refuse to believe it.

I hear you...I don't think it's realistic in any way shape or form...he is going back to LA. BUT...I was wondering what the forum thought about that wage bill for Donovan...just hypothetically and all that...

30k a week for a player like him is cheap as chips.........but it is not gonna happen.

Interesting...guess that takes the greed part out...and yes...not going to happen. Actually, is there somewhere out there that shows how much each player makes? It's easy to find that information on pretty much all sports over here, but I can't seem to find that for Premier League players.

Donovan just gets it done. His first touch always seems to be 5 yards. he flicks the ball or pushes it where he wants to go due to his pace.... I just do not think trapping the ball and playing it under his feet is the way he plays.

His first touch was just up and not to one side or the other against Man City.

I tried to resist but I had to buy his damn shirt this year.. The third kit.

To be fair, UEFA is a far higher standard of football than CONCACAF. Donovan has numbers, but those are inflated by the competitive level of CONCACAF. Doesn't mean he isn't a great player; LD has been absolute quality and has had a positive impact on Everton. The World Cup performances speak for themselves. But using his goals/assists stats in comparison to some of those players mentioned is a bit like saying Arthur Rowley was a better player than Dixie Dean because he scored more goals. Context matters.

Donovan may well be better than most players in this league. But using his international stats to justify that claim doesn't pass muster. Your statistics for his time in the Premier League make your point. What he does against Fulham or Villa matters exponentially more to this discussion than what he does against El Salvador and Belize.

NFL is one of the best-run leagues. But the NBA and NHL are shambolic and MLS would have been dead years ago had it not been for Anschutz's funding (Thankfully, that situation improves with every passing year.). There are many sport leagues operating under bad business models. The United States isn't immune to poorly-run clubs and leagues.

Yeah, the top teams are of a higher standard that CONCACAF. However, the minnows of Europe would be smashed just as easily in CONCACAF as they are in UEFA. You've got your cupcakes too whether you'd like to admit it or not.

so because I have an opinion which differs to yours you lower yourself to personal attacks..... How would you know what my level of football knowledge is ??? My opinion is just that, my opinion.... i'm not asking you agree and im not attacking you for your views also im not questioning your football knowledge.

I want opinions based on FACTS. If you can't base your opinions on facts, then you open yourself up, as you have here, to responses like mine. I'll refer back to my original post. If anyone thinks that Landon is just an average player, then they need to have a word with themselves. You can take it however you want to. Opinion, attack, statement of fact, I really don't care. What I care about is when Evertonians have a go at any one of their own when they really don't deserve it. It's a malady with Evertonians and one that I get tired of quite easily. For many, they take the Nil Satis a bit too seriously.

Good investment.

In reading all the stuff about Buddle coming back to LA, we're not going to be able to extend his loan I'm thinking.

LA is clearly going all out for the CONCACAF Champions League. They want to win. Which means he's back in LA for 2012. At the end of the season it's a free for all.

Firstly, I never once suggested or stated he was just an average player so that negates your first rant .
Secondly, I never had a go at him in any way shape or form so sadly that negates your second rant.

Wanna leave it there or you wanna try again ???

if you cant base your opinions on facts and all that like.....
