‘We’ll consider it’: David Moyes Hints at Everton Loanee Returning in January

Everton boss David Moyes has hinted that midfielder Harrison Armstrong could rejoin the Blues in January.

Armstrong is currently on a season-long loan at Preston, where he has impressed so far this year.

However, when asked about the possibility of the youngster returning in January, Moyes replied, ‘we’ll consider it’.

Speaking at today’s press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Newcastle, Moyes said: “I’m really happy how Harrison is doing. He’s coming on great. I think Preston would be hugely disappointed if we took him back.

“But he’s got an injury at the moment, as well. He’s been out of the last few games.

We’ll consider it in January, but at the moment, with him getting the games at the age he’s at and the way he’s performing, Preston will, hopefully, have a good chance of reaching the play-offs.

“It’s a good level for him to be playing at.”

ARMSTRONG HAS BAGS OF POTENTIAL. HIS PROGRESS SHOULDN’T BE RUSHED, BUT IF HE’S READY, HE’S READY

The 18-year-old has impressed during his time at Deepdale. Indeed, manager Paul Heckingbottom has made no secret of his desire to keep him for the duration of the loan.

However, with Everton’s limited midfield options, the youngster could yet play a part in Moyes’ plans.

Idrissa Gueye will soon depart for AFCON, and may not return until the end of January.

Meanwhile, Merlin Rohl has recently undergone a hernia operation, sidelining the 23-year-old.

The Blues do have the in-form James Garner to call upon. However, he may be needed for cover at right-back.

Tim Ireogbunam could seize an opportunity to establish himself in Moyes’ starting XI, but that still leaves us short.

Armstrong has bags of potential and is benefiting from regular first team football in the Championship.

However, if Moyes believes the lad will be ready for Premier League football in January, he’ll be an exciting addition.
