Everton Stars Looking to Shine at Euro 2020

With a trio of Everton’s stars taking part at the European Championships this summer, all three players will have hopes of lifting the prestigious trophy. Here’s a look at Jordan Pickford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Lucas Digne to see what can be expected of them at the major tournament.

Lucas Digne (France)

Starting with the only non-English player from Everton to make Euro 2020, Lucas Digne has worked his way back into the good graces of France boss Didier Deschamps. The former Barcelona wing-back missed out on the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as Les Bleus went on to lift the trophy.

The reigning world champions are unsurprisingly among the favourites to win the tournament this summer, and are 9/2 to win the competition in the Euro 2021 odds. Having impressed the Toffees this season, Digne will be hoping to be heavily involved at the major event. The 27-year-old came off the bench at half-time and wowed at left-back in France’s warm-up game against Wales in a 3-0 win. Digne will hope his efforts in the pre-tournament friendlies will be enough to get him significant game time for the national side.

France do have a tough group that includes both Germany and Portugal, but Digne and the rest of the French squad will have high hopes of going all the way to the title.

Jordan Pickford (England)

One man who will be looking to stop France from getting their hands on the trophy is Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The Toffees’ shot-stopper has been forced to battle for his first-choice status under manager Gareth Southgate, but he is expected to start England’s opener against Croatia.

If Pickford helps the Three Lions off to a strong start in the group stages, then the starting place between the sticks will be his to lose. The 27-year-old helped England reach the 2018 World Cup semi-finals, and the former Sunderland keeper will be hoping to use that experience to get his country to the business end of the tournament.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (England)

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be looking to find the form that helped him make a blistering start to the Premier League season under now-former boss Carlo Ancelotti. Few would have anticipated DCL making the England squad for Euro 2020 last summer, but the 12-month delay for the competition gave the striker the extra time needed to impress.

Calvert-Lewin bagged 16 Premier League goals this term, and he will be looking to compete for a starting role alongside England skipper Harry Kane this summer. The 24-year-old has already shown he is capable of shining at international level, as the Yorkshireman already has four England goals to his name in nine appearances.

It looks set to be an exciting summer for all three players, and Everton fans will be hoping to see even more improved and experienced stars returning to Goodison Park for the start of the next Premier League campaign.
