Marco Silva’s Warning

Marco Silva has warned his players there is nowhere to hide following a poor start to the 2019/20 season.

Marco Silva said: “It is not the moment for anyone to hide.

“I said it inside the dressing room, too [after the Sheffield United defeat] – there is nowhere we can hide, we have to show stronger character, personality.

“Unfortunately, in some moments, we didn’t see that. Now I don’t want anyone hiding, not me, not them. It is a moment for us to go and play football and to take responsibility as well.

“In the second half, I didn’t see that ability and in some moments many players were hiding and didn’t give solutions. I want everyone there – football is about playing and showing strong character. No one can hide.

“No one, I am always here for you, I am always here for our fans, I will not hide, no one can hide.”

The comments follow club captain’s Seamus Coleman’s comments, who prior Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United, spoke of a lack of bravery.

Who is this complaining to the paper? It would seem to be someone with knowledge of how training goes day to day at FF. Someone with an axe to grind? All is not well it seems. Dissenters in the ranks. What next?

Walcott’s game has always been about pace and he reminds me of Bolasie in a way, in that he is more of an athlete than a footballer. He was decent for Arsenal when he was younger but the years are catching up with him now. I still think Henry would be a better attacking coach than Ferguson though.
    [/QUOTE]
I was expecting Walcott to get more composed in front of goal as he matured, seems to have gone the opposite. Not sure big Dunc should have any role on staff, Henry crashed and burned at Monaco.

Is that a serious question? Sigurdsson has touched the ball a total of about 8 times in the opening 6 games. Our “captain” won’t say boo to a goose and we’re still playing Morgan Schneiderlin who pretty blatantly hides on the pitch and has done for the last two years.

Funnily enough Coleman said the same thing last week. Player’s hiding from the ball. We know Schneidercrab does it but for the others it’s pretty strange. Very mentally weak.

  22. Martinez, koeman fat sam and now silva all have played with the same formation. All were too stubborn to change. All were unsucessful.all were sacked. (Im including marco here!!)

Not 1 of these managers have tried anything different for any reasonable period of time. Why not play 433 or 4132 at home from the off against the lower table clubs. Start attack from the off. Non stop for 90 mins. Big attacking intensity. Movement up front. Get the crowd onside.

Believe in the players. Forget 2 holding midfielders. Forget crosses from outwide way outside the box. It has failed for 5 years. Long enough to be putting up with this crap sideways backwards slow passing with no movement.

Marco is too stubborn like the others above.Wont change either like they didnt. Will be sacked like them too.

You may have a point there as Koeman proved that good players don’t necessarily make good managers. It’s just that our forwards seem to always want that extra touch or second to think, which inevitably leads to the attack breaking down. Proven goal scorers could offer players like DCL mentorship and advice which surely would improve their game.

What Silva says in relation to the second half against Sheffield United, it was his decision to go all out attack and leave us susceptible to the second goal which we eventually conceded. Players and manager both to blame but if Silva’s way of not hiding is to go gung ho with disregard to any tactical shape then that’s not going to achieve anything. You can’t play like that for half an hour, not against a half decent opposition. We haven’t played well once this season. Injuries to the midfield haven’t helped matters.

Spot on mate all the fans can see this why can’t a guy who has loads of coaching badges see it?

  40. He’s not wrong about many players hiding. The biggest culprit being Sigurdson, who hides for most games, yet is always a guaranteed starter. Double standards Marco.

  41. He’s clueless. Needs to take a look at himself. He picks the team, the useless tactics, pointless substitutions and fails to motivate these useless spinesss gutless wonders who steal a living.

Everyone needs to look at themselves here. From the fans in the stands to the players on the pitch and all the non-playing staff as well. If we don’t pull together and get going in the same direction together then we’re in trouble. Now the manager has a huge pivotal role in getting that kind of momentum going with the players. The fans will jump on board within a couple of great performances and committed displays and some fight. It’s all possible.

Is he the man for the job? Last year, he had 2 bad patches, one with the zonal marking issues at the start of the season and the second with that stinking run after the 1st derby. He and the team pulled it around. I’m certain that he can turn it around given time, but another question is starting in my mind – can he avoid these bad patches in the first place?

My apologies over comparing us to the rs, but Klopp the season before last, managed to get to a point were one bad game didn’t turn into a streak. Pochettino has done similar to a lesser degree at Spurs. Pep took over a team where this was the situation with the City squad. This is were I’d expect Silva to be getting to this season if he is going to be here for the long term. I am not overly concerned by the odd loss at the moment, but I’d expect us to bounce back and compete very hard in the next game to make amends and I don’t really get that impression I’m afraid.

They may come out and perform well for a short time but then they seem to lose confidence. Is this the lack of bravery that Coleman mentions or the hiding that Silva mentions? If it is, that needs the likes of Silva, Boa Morte and Ferguson geeing up, cajoling, rousing the players as much as is needed to get the job done. You seen Everton win the league yet you want a manager back that got us no where near and is the least successful manager in our history for time spent at the club.
He’s a poor manager, he’s failed everywhere he went after us.

Stop living in the past, Moyes did an okay job for us nothing more

  49. I do find his demeanour beginning to grate on me. You can have whatever personality you like if you’re doing well but the reverse isn’t always the case.

It is somewhat unfair in that like the rest of us, he probably can’t ever do much to change that and suddenly become more animated and angry as then it becomes forced.

But I do think after generations of mediocrity the club needs a confident, forceful personality to lead it, whilst fully buying in to the need for us to progress and compete. The players need leadership on that front too.

Moyes was marvellous in that aspect in his initial years but other than that the last person to have the force of personality we needed to match the circumstances was Big Joe.

Agree with this, still picking Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson is absolutely on him.

  55. None of this is reflected in his demeanour or is specifically ventilated in his commentary to the media.

We should be 6-7 points better off. We haven’t been convincing in any game this season and it’s a massive anticlimax from the ending to last term. Had we obtained an experienced ‘ready to go’ front man I think, given formations etc, we would still be struggling.

Is that a serious question? Sigurdsson has touched the ball a total of about 8 times in the opening 6 games. Our “captain” won’t say boo to a goose and we’re still playing Morgan Schneiderlin who pretty blatantly hides on the pitch and has done for the last two years.
