Everton’s need for a striker is there for all to see

After a strong run of form going in to the Merseyside Derby last weekend, it has become more transparent then ever that Everton are in desperate need for a new striker.

Richarlison’s summer move from Watford has been positive, with the Brazilian International scoring 8 Premier League Goals in the opening 16 league matches the Blues have played this season.

January Arrival Cenk Tosun has only managed 2 goals this season for the Toffees, with both goals coming in home wins over Fulham and Crystal Palace, however the Turkish International has failed to cement a place in the starting lineup, with Richarlison a natural winger, being preferred over him. It is clear to see that although the goals keep coming for Everton’s Brazilian Star, that he really isnt an out and out striker, and this is an issue Everton really need to address as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Currently Everton have three strikers in the first team, Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse. When you look at the depth that Everton now have at their disposal, it is really clear to see where the investment is needed. With it rumoured that Tosun is eyeing a return to Turkish side Besiktas, as well as the rumours that Oumar Niasse will finally leave the toffees, with a proposed move back to Russia being linked, Everton really do need to quickly find a replacement for the two strikers. Although Dominic Calvert-Lewin is young, and seems to be improving, I think a Loan move in January could really help develop the England U21 Internationals career. With the likes of Burnley, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Cardiff really struggling to put the ball in the back of the net, could it be the perfect opportunity for young DCL to head out and get some much needed Premier League experience.

With it looking likely that both Tosun and Niasse will be leaving Finch Farm in January, I’ve had a look around at who is currently available and who Marcel Brands and Co should be keeping an eye on.

Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

22 Year Old Werner is enjoying arguably the best form of his career for German Side RB Leipzig. The German International has scored 8 goals in 14 appearances for Leipzig which have been imperative to Ralf Rangnick’s sides pursuit of a return to Champions League Football.

Luka Jovic (Frankfurt)

Jovic is in the form of his life at Frankfurt at the moment and has 10 goals in 12 league appearances this season with a few of Europes top teams keeping an eye on the now capped Serbian International. The 20 year old who does play as a natural striker can also play on either wing if needed.

Bas Dost (Sporting Lisbon)

Since his move to Sporting from Wolfsburg in 2016. Bas Dost boasts a great record of a goal every game. The Dutch Striker is now 29 and coming towards the back end of his career, but could be be exactly what Everton need? The 6’5 talisman offers an array of different options, he is clinical in the air, as well as the fact that he has a knack for being in the right position at the right time.

Three Possible Striking options there for The Blues, with it becoming increasingly clear just how much we need a new Centre forward, but who would you like to see Brands and Co pursue in the January transfer window?
