David Unsworth to take temporary charge

Everton have this morning confirmed news that David Unsworth will take temporary charge of the Everton first team.

The Everton hierarchy are considering several candidates to replace Ronald Koeman. The Burnley manager, Sean Dyche, Watford’s Marco Silva, the former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti have been linked with the vacancy.

Unsworth is another candidate to replace Koeman on a permanent basis. The former Everton defender, who has flourished as manager of the club’s under‑23s, took charge of one Premier League game after Roberto Martínez’s sacking in 2016 and will reprise his caretaker role for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Chelsea. The under-23s coach John Ebbrell will also be in the Everton dugout at Stamford Bridge.

Although Unsworth, 44, lacks managerial experience in the Premier League, he is highly regarded within Goodison and is likely to be given the next four matches until the international break – Chelsea, Leicester City, Lyon away and Watford – to impress.
