Paddy’s Preview: Wigan vs Everton

Wigan are the opposition on Saturday as Everton take to the road against Roberto Martinez’s side in the Barclays Premier League.

Everton are 21/20 to take all three points with the home side trading at 11/4 and the draw priced at 23/10.

The Toffees’ home form has been irresistible this season with last week’s 3-1 win over Southampton the eighth win in nine games at Goodison Park in all competitions.

Everton are two wins from three on the road this season with victories at Villa Park (3-1) and Swansea’s Liberty Stadium (3-0) and they’ll want to show that type of form again at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

Nikica Jelavic is in a rich vein of form at the moment scoring two against Southampton last weekend on his comeback after injury and was narrowly denied a hat-trick. Jelavic has scored 12 goals in 18 league appearances for the Toffees in the Premier League

The Croatian striker is 5/1 to score the game’s opening goal, 6/4 to score at anytime and 3/1 to score first for his team in Paddy Power’s online betting. He’s 17/2 to score two goals or more and 33/1 to get a hat-trick.

South African Steven Pienaar, who announced his retirement from international football this week, hit the net against Aston Villa along with Jelavic and Marouane Fellaini. Victor Anichebe and Kevin Mirallas scored against Swansea while Fellaini was on target again.

Belgian international Fellaini is 15/2 to be the first or last goalscorer on Saturday, 5/2 to score at anytime and 5/1 to score first for Everton to keep this season’s tally of being among Everton’s away scorers going.

In the 2004/05 season Everton had 13 points after six matches and went on to claim a Champions League spot and will want to keep the momentum going here.

The last two fixtures at the DW have ended 1-1 with Everton having to come from a goal down twice to share the points.

Paddy Power make it 13/2 that history repeats itself and the sides finish 1-1 while they offer 4/6 that both sides hit the net in the ‘Both Teams to Score’ market.

Everton and Draw is 13/1 in the double chance section while under 2.5 goals is trading at 4/5 with the online bookmaker who are laying 13/5 that there are exactly two goals scored.

A Victor Anichebe strike in the 83rd minute cancelled out a Phil Neville own goal seven minutes earlier last season while a 78th minute Leighton Baines penalty rescued a point for the visitors the season before.

Anichebe’s strength and power makes him a lively goal threat and he’s 15/2 to open the scoring against the Latics.

The Nigerian international is the most-used substitute in Everton’s history and the 6/1 in the Insurebet First Goalscorer market could be the logical choice if he doesn’t start.
