Red Devils Secure Hard Fought Win At Goodison

Manchester United picked up a hard fought away win at Goodison Park over Everton today, with Javier Hernandez securing a 1-0 win in the first half.

It´s true that Everton enjoyed the lions share of possession in the game, and statistics will show that we had our fair share of shots on goal as well.

However, the Toffees never created a chance which troubled De Gea, with the only two efforts of note being a Baines free-kick rebounding off the crossbar and a curling Rodwell left footed effort that De Gea was lucky to save with his face.

That said, United didn´t craft too much themselves. Park had a glaring chance in the first minute, but the only clear chance they created was converted by the prolific Mexican Javier Hernandez.

Inside the first twenty minutes, Evra found himself completely unmarked on the left and afforded time to fizz a ball across goal, which Chicharito converted easily beyond a stranded Howard from five yards.

It was a dull game for the most. The second half saw Man Utd sit back and hold the lead expertly, after a scare in the latter stages of the first half which saw Everton gain a foothold in the United half and create half chances for Rodwell and Osman.

The truth is that there was a gulf in terms of quality between the two sides. United, who at times looked like a shaky back line could be got at it, were in reality rarely tested. The Everton substitutes didn´t inspire a change in direction, with half time introduction Barkley operating in an unfamiliar left wing role and Vellios and Gueye failing to unsettle the Mancunians to any real degree.

Everton boss David Moyes will be happy to see the back of October, and will now be looking to take advantage of a significantly easier looking run of fixtures.

Everton 1 Man Utd 0.
