Everton are prepared to test Tottenham’s desire to land Steven Pienaar in January by requesting a swap deal involving Irish international striker Robbie Keane.
Chelsea are rumoured to be the latest club to express an interest in the South African winger, with a fee of £3m being quoted. However, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp remains determined to land his man and may be ready to test Everton’s resolve by offering Keane on loan to the Toffees as an incentive to accept an early offer for Pienaar.
Any swap deal for Keane would depend on the strikers wages being half paid for by the Londoners.
Everton are struggling to amass funds to allow them to raid the January transfer market for more attacking options. Nigerian striker Yakubu is rumoured to be a target for Leicester City, whilst Louis Saha remains an interest of French club AS Monaco.
