Why are we leaking so many goals?

Distin needs effing off to the bench and stones needs to stay at CB. If jags and distin start against liverpool martinez needs shooting.

Because other teams are scoring more, all the other teams have got better forwards this season than last
Oh and as Ijjy said

I think confidence is a big issue, as soon as we concede, heads drop, we need a leader on the pitch who can motivate and inspire. This is something I thought Barry did well last year but even he looks lost at the moment. A Peter Reid type character would make a huge difference to this team.

Yes the goals on Sunday were down to individual mistakes, but that's no explanation, not when we're talking about a pattern over several games. What's going on in the players heads that's causing them to make mistakes, when they looked rock solid for much of the last few seasons ?

Well said, Rooney bollocking his defenders is something we massively need had they been actual quality they would of picked themselves up from that, jags is simply not captain material.

Leicester and Arsenal: Everyone was unfit and Martinez left it too late to make his substitutions.
Chelsea: Jags and Barry had their worst games in Everton colours. Between the two of them i think they were at fault for four, if not five of Chelsea's goals.
Palace: Failure to capitalise on early dominance, and Howard had a couple of howlers.

I would like to see Distin and Stones as the CB pair, but this is dependent on Coleman's fitness. Barry needs to be given a breather every so often if we are going to see the best of him regularly.

Howard is a liability now but his replacement Robles scares the [Poor language removed] out of me

The thing is, goalkeepers need a run of games to find themselves.

Even Neville was dodgy at first, he was between the sticks in the Glen Keeley derby and was taken out of the firing line and loaned out.

Howard appears done to me.

At this stage I would be inclined to hand the gloves to Robles and see what he is really made off over a half dozen or ten games.

City did it with Joe Hart last season when he was playing badly.

Let's face it, the Wolfsburg game notwithstanding, Robles couldn't have done any worse than Timmy in these first five league games.

Or, you could look at it and say we never conceded at West Brom due to them having an awful attack. The best chance was set up by McCarthy in injury time.

Wolfsburg we was lucky to concede one, they had plenty of opportunities. Against Palace we made absolute howlers.

From a defensive point of view we have been awful.

Wolfsburg are a very good team especially in attack. Of course they're going to get chances however they didn't come from clueless defending, same with Palace and WBA.

We've been much better since the international break now their fitness is back. We are just are missing Barkley and it's highlighting the weaknesses of McCarthy and Barry.

He needs to decide what his first choice back 4 is and then stick with them for a run of games.

No resting, no alterations, stick with them. A couple of clean sheets, the confidence will rise and they'll be back to the level of last season.

I'd still like to see him bring in a defensive specialist coach though.

....it's odd that we are conceding so many, apparently there's only one club in Europe's top leagues who's conceded more. I reckon its not system or shape. We played the same last season to good affect. We have 2 defensive midfielders who rarely cross the half-way line providing a shield to the back 4 and allowing full backs to bomb forward.

Many of the goals we've conceded have been the result of individual error. Sunday was quite unbelievable, mistakes like those are rare in a season at top level yet it happened 3 times in one game. It will certainly help if we cut those out as it appears the main reason why the goals against column is so high.

I think there are a number of factors with the main one being fitness. I'm not sure what the plan was pre-season but not many of the actual first team seemed to be as fit as they should be when the season started.

Jags was injured at the tail end of last season and then had a bad time at the World Cup mentally. Distin seems to be suffering with injuries as well. But it's not just them, McCarthy doesn't look the player he was last season and neither does Barry. McCarthy lost his man 3 times against Chelsea. Against Arsenal Jags looked out on his feet. Basic fitness should never be an issue at this level.

Everyone knows from their own experiences when you are tired physically, you don't think as quick and I think that has been the problem. Slow in body, slow in mind and players are getting caught out and making mistakes they wouldn't normally make. Once that uncertainty creeps in, then confidence goes, and suddenly no one looks comfortable.

The worrying thing for me is that last season we had loads of soft tissue injuries throughout the season, which can occur when fitness is not at a premium. it's not bad luck that 5 or 6 different players all had hamstring issues. I wonder how they monitor fitness levels and if the players are as fit as they have been in the past.

To add to all that, Martinez system much like brenda and Wenger's, seems to have the full backs bombing on high up the pitch, leaving large areas of the pitch exposed. If your players then don't have the mobility to cover that ground, then you have the Kevin Keegan effect and need to score 3 goals to have a chance. We have also been playing with 2 almost out and out wide players, Mirallas has been working hard to try and add defensive duties to his game, but McGeady and Atsu clearly haven't. This leaves us even more exposed from a defensive standpoint.
