I think he's struggling for confidence and he's not yet fully fit. He seems a touch off the pace and his 1st touch isn't quite there. He took the game by the scruff of the neck at times last season.
A bit of second season syndrome.
A bit of lacking full fitness after injury.
A bit of being in less than favourite position.
A bit of England being a distraction.
A lot of mega expectations that his every touch in every game justify the rave reviews and keep us happy when we are not quite firing as expected as a team.
He is a great player in the making but he is instinctive rather than football brainy. That will come with experience. Until then it will be highs and lows, magic moments that suggest the talent and potential combined with inconsistency and tendency not to dominate games yet, especially out wide.
Patience with the lad boys and girls. He is still young and coming back from injury.

No excuses, he is not the new "Stevie Gee" and so he does not need his career blighted by diving and then saying he'd "have a word with any team mates that do".

He shouldn't be diving. Ever. At all. Hated Arteta pretending with the faux yellow card - should have been sent off each time.

As for the player today...

That filthy kopite piece of subhuman scum has a bit of form with crocking youth team Everton players, if that coward was coming at me I'd be either getting out of the way asap or looking to Liu Kang him into next year.

In conclusion, Diverpool and all their childhood wannabe's that never cut the mustard under Souness' regime of inability can go and throw themselves off of cliffs. Barkley got a good lesson today in sporting ethics and being hauled over the media coals for the medias enjoyment. The road is a long one and beset on all sides by the tyranny of evil kopscum, head held high and play to the sprirt of the game.

Not a winger is he?

Terrible dive which he should be embarrassed by, of course, but it's not like no one's done it before.

Just needs a few games central and he'll be flying again as long as he doesn't keep over complicating things and puts a shift in.

Sounds bad but it's a shame Naismith isn't out for a little longer than a few days. Barkley needs a few games at CAM to really get back to his best but by the looks of things martinez is sticking to shoving him out wide to accomodate Naismith.

Lad should be praised when he does well, but should (rightly) be given stick today for both his performance and the embarrassing dive. He's better than that, our Ross.
