Player Valuation: £70m
The score line flattered Arsenal tonight at Underhill with a 3-0 victory with Everton giving them a game with George Green having an impressive outing for the blues but was replaced by Long for the last 9 minutes.

Everton conceded a hotly disputed penalty a minute before the interval and 3 minutes before the end of the game Arsenal were awarded another penalty with the third arriving in the 90th minute.

Alan Stubbs and his team arrived at Underhill to face Terry Burton’s Arsenal that had won their opening two games scoring six and conceding one. On the other side of the coin Everton had only scored 2 and conceded 8 from their two games with 5 coming against West Ham last Sunday at Finch Farm.

Ross Barkley was made captain for the evening as Arsenal saw more of the ball than Everton with Everton failing to create any real cut chances although Lundstram sent a volleyed effort way off the target.

Green on a couple of occasions was brought down and from a free kick, Gueye was just inches over the bar.
Arsenal had the first real chance of the game on the half hour as the Gunners were awarded a free kick which resulted in Chuks Aneke beating the Everton wall and Taudul looking beaten but thankfully the effort was off target.

Just as the teams looked to be heading in level at the break, Everton will feel hardly done to as the referee gave a penalty after Browning looked to have won the ball cleanly with Meade threatening on goal. The ref pointed to the spot which Sanchez Watt despatched to put the host’s in front.

HALF TIME

The home side looked the brighter of the two teams in the second period with the downward slop of the pitch in their favour. 3 minutes into the half Everton had a lucky escape as Meade’s shot came off the post.

Taudul had to be on his guard as he saved well with his legs from Watt then for the visitors, Tyias Browning was using the width attacking but failed to make any concerns for the home side.

Everton’s defence were starting to be put under immense pressure, firstly Meade in acres of space spurned a chance then Taudul once more to deny Thomas Eisfeld.

George Green almost levelled for the Merseysiders after good work from Garbutt whose delivery was not cleared as ‘keeper Shea made an important stop to deny Green some glory.

Everton were also denied a good shout for a penalty as Hallam Hope was brought down but the referee saw different and waved the play on with Alan Stubbs looking furious on the line.

A back pass which Taudul failed to control as Meade pressurised with 5 minutes left on the clock was forced to be fouled by the Everton keeper to concede the second penalty of the game which proved decisive as Watt doubled his tally.

Right at the death the game was put out of Everton’s grasp as Arsenal created an intelligent build up to be finished off by substitute Kyle Embcelio.

Nice one bally, looks like it was closer than the scoreline suggests which is a good thing I suppose

Green making the step up okay it seems. How is Hope faring these days?

No concerns over Hallam Hope, we are better with him than withoutQUOTE=BigDunc'sFod;1446177]Nice one bally, looks like it was closer than the scoreline suggests which is a good thing I suppose

Cheers AB.

Dissapointing result, but good to see a few lads like green stepping up a level. Can you see any of this group going out on loan?

Cheers Mr B enjoy reading your reports kidda - even if the scores not great. good to read the score was "flattering"

There is every possibilty a few of these could go out on loan but i can't comment on as to which those will be

My take on the game for what it's worth:

1) Arsenal deserved the victory but not by three goals. Our boys ran hard and fought but they played the smoother, passing football which was important as the midfield was so crowded. The game was played mainly in 20 metres either side of the half way line with both teams closing down the space very quickly. No room at all for Barkley and Lundstrum to hit any decisive passes.

2) Interestingly, Blackburn played them the previous weekend and sat deeper, allowing Arsenal to play in front of the box but closing down the space and preventing shots. They had quite a few fast breaks which, had it been Barkley, Green and Hope, may have engineered quite a few chances.

3) We had a relatively inexperienced team out missing Vellios, Junior and Duffy - they would have made a big difference (as they did last season when we won 2-0). That meant that we had a left winger playing centre-mid, Kelly in the first half and Gueye in the second which was a bit unbalanced.

4) Thought the difference between the teams was the two centrebacks, they won the ball and maintained possession whilst we tended to push the ball about and then passed the ball back to the goalie who kicked long. Hallam Hope was on his own and he did fairly well when the ball was delivered chest high or lower, he had no chance when it was just lumped in the air. There was nobody within 10 metres of him.

5) Barkley played the best ball of the match, an instinctive first time through ball that put Hope in with a chance but he was foiled by a magnificent last ditch tackle from the centre back. He needed to play in a free role behind Hope to find space, make things happen. He ran around alot in mid field, chasing the ball as ordered but he had no chance to shine as it was so crowded. Getting concerned that he will not develop into the player that we all hope that he will become.

6) Green showed promise, particularly in the second half when he was played on the left. He had a very good shot on target and was well involved. He came inside alot in the first half and tended to pass across the pitch were it was intercepted a few times.

All in all a hard fought match but we will do better with a full team. The first penalty was a clear, fair tackle by Browning, a very strange decision by the ref.
