    Royston Drenthe

Now the dust begins to settle on the whole thing, and hes definitely gone, and to be honest he was a ticking timebomb and would never have finished the campaign, we all sort of knew that from the start. I dont know what he did and those who do think he deserved it, and theyre probably right, but in the months when our strike partnership was Saha and Cahill who contributed 1 goal between them before christmas, and our wingers where mainly Coleman and Osman, and it was operation hoofball all the time, he gave us something, a stepover to make us fap, a long shot to make us windmill, without that glimmer of flair, I dont know what we would have done. Thanks for the memories Royston!

I think he scored our only two open play 20+ yarders this season.

I'll have fond memories of him anyway.

His flame was brief and volatile, but it shone bright. So bright. *wipes tear from eye/wang

Oh no, please tell me that he's not going to become some sort of mythical footballing saint that Manny Fernandes became, and be used as a stick to beat Moyes with every time we get beat and/or lack creative endeavour in midfield???!!

Drenthe is a talented player with issues, who has now been sacked off by both Mourinho and Moyes, two fairly good managerial judges of character. His issues clearly get in the way of him making a worthwhile contribution to the team. It will be interesting to see where he winds up next and how he gets on.

I don't know how you would get that idea, the OP clearly said that it was his own fault and he was a ticking timebomb...

  6. Tis a shame that kid had the talent, tis also a shame he seems to be throwing that talent away. I reckon De Rossi would've smacked him one..

    Not worth the hassle imo.

    Goodbye Rosyton!

Moyes never seemed to keen on him & his diving pissed me off at times, quality player when he wanted to be & i reckon he'll do alright somewhere else. That goal at Fulham was amazing tho.

All the stuff he wrote after saying he was a ticking timebomb. I presume he was being tongue in cheek, 'thanks for the memories' etc, but still, you never know.

Drenthe means as much to me as Jo did, just a name picked at random. Just some player who came in, got good wages, and ultimately failed for Everton Football Club due to their own inadequacies.

Such a waste though, if he could have sorted his head out he would have been amazing.

I love players like royston, sometimes managers need elephants bollocks to stick by them and hope they calm down because when he does he's a player.

Similar to Manuel Fernandes, a lot of skill but not consistent enough. So much potential but a bad attitude.

think this was handled poorly, he was late for training so hand him the maximum fine and tell the lad to buck up his ideas, I remember beckford turning up late to a GAME, a game that knocked us out of the cup, and I dont remember him getting into thjis much trouble over it.

End of the day sign drenthe to a 5 year contract, if he still doesent preform up to scratch sell him for 4-5m and we get some money in for a new signing.
thats a potential 5m down the drain

Pienaar and Osman scored one each against Sunderland.

BS. When someone pays you the best part of £40K a week the very least you can do is show some loyalty, respect & turn up to do your job. Since so many others are depending on your contribution if you fall short in that regard there's no knowing how much effort you'll be putting in when push comes to shove. So, tara Royston, thanks for the goals. Stay on your feet lad.

So he turns up late, does that mean he should be sacked, If you turned up late to work would you be sacked.
a free transfer who would have a decent sell on value in 1-2 years time and we pass up on it.

its worth the risk look at demba ba, how stupid do stoke feel now not signing him up.

He was disciplined multiple times over his short loan period, stop acting like he turned up late once.

So we sign him on a free and pay him £50k a week, what if he carries on playing up and breaking rules ? Then we've got a player who no other club will give us decent money for and you are paying him £2.6m a year. Your 'sell on value' argument has no weight.

And comparing him to Demba Ba ? Wow.
