Every opposition fan reacts that way. Like we should be grateful for the **** we get fed every week, every transfer window, every AGM. It's not about spectacular nose dives into lower divisions or pending administrations. It's a slow burn anger building in the fanbase. It's about how the board and incompetence of Bill in selling the club are slowly dragging us down. The only reason it's been a slow process is because Moyes somehow, with a negative net spend, built a quality side that was in europe, smashing teams left right and centre in 07/08 (you will remember that no doubt). We needed to kick on from there and invest. But thanks to Bill we didn't. And since then we've slipped into decline.
Every transfer window is dreaded these days. Last summer we sold Arteta, Beckford, Yakubu and
Yobo and brought in two speculative loan deals. That is pretty much as bad as it gets for a team that's not in admin. Bill said that Arteta money would be spent. It wasn't. That's just one of the time-buying lies he has told. The Blue Union are the main protest group opposing the board. Their website, I believe, lists the lies they have told. It's a laugh to read, even for us. Sensational banter from Bill, especially, on many an occasion. There's only so much of this that a fan can take. The football is **** now as most of our quality players have gone (Lescott, Arteta, Pienaar - oh the shame of begging Harry to give us back a player on loan that shat on us and forced a move - and the rest may well soon. And we have to deal with this while the reds splash £100m on utter donkeys, just about finish above us and then laugh at us.
Not even onto Moyes yet. Firstly, I love him. I think he's a good manager and a great fella but his tactics this season and most of last season have been so negative it's unreal. He's a shadow of his former self and what hurts is he's accepted that we're going nowhere. He's accepted that we're an average side and he's playing for draws against QPR and subconsciously giving up. He may well have killed our entire season last week in the derby. The fans would be compassionate if we actually had a go, but we don't. Many fans are now against him. I don't blame them. We play some dire stuff at times. When we play for a draw against Norwich at home, you just simply don't want to be there. This season has been the worst of the ten. Described as worse than Smith, Walker, Kendall et al. But yet, a few wins against the top 4 and Moyes is a miracle worker in the eyes of the country.
Do you know how frustrating it is for a big club like ourselves to be portrayed in the media as "punching above our weight" every time we win a game? Because that's what they say every. single. time. Without wishing to sound kopite-like i.e. living in the past, we are the 4th most successful club in the country and this can't be tolerated. People on the outside don't think anything's wrong, only a few level-headed kopites really know what's happening and "get it".
It's not knee-jerk. We put up and shut up for years. We're not kopites. We don't "love a good protest, mate". In 6 or 7 years we could go down if things don't change. Moyes could leave and no one will want his job. Who would? It's a thankless task. The fans have known this would happen since Collina blew his whistle on Duncan Ferguson at Villareal, but years of experience have shown there is nothing we can do about it. Some fans don't want to watch this happening. Especially those who knew what it was to see Everton as the biggest club in Europe and especially as we're not even having a go on the pitch these days. Ask any true Evertonian. They will tell you these are sad times. Not shocking, horrible etc just sad.
If you don't think that's bad enough for 4 or 5 thousand less on the gate then fine. The away attendances are still exemplary but some can't bring themselves to going through it every week at
Goodison. We're talking about lads who followed the team through decades of good and bad up and down the country. If you knew you'd get it. I probably haven't explained everything in this post. If a blue who has given up could post on here maybe he could explain better. But often they're the quietest of the lot.
