How do you solve a problem like Arteta

After todays pedestrian display by Mikel i was just wondering what peoples thoughts where on how to get him firing on all cylinders again

I know Moyes was quoted as saying "form is temp class is permanent" but how long can he stick with a badly out of form player

He needs to play in a new position. He needs change. Perhaps spearheading a midfield triangle with Felli and Rodwell/Osman, on the right or at the top of a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond. I don't know, but right now he's getting worse each game, and Moyes is changing nothing.

    Or drop him.

Fellaini can't keep having to carry him each game, time to drop him I think.

    I'd replace him with Osman.

Today was one of his better performances of the season but still far from what he's capable of. Thought he tired noticably late on as well. Maybe moving him into a position where he has less time on the ball could get his brain ticking again. Could be an option down the left with Pienaar going, let Rodwell and Fellaini continue the partnership they were threatening to develop against City and Chelsea.

Time for Big Dunc to kidnap his missus and tell her to let Mikel have his way with her again.

    Problem solved.

At the moment, I think we have to drop him, let him get some rest and bring him back in in a few weeks time. I'd say play Rodwell instead alongside Fellaini, as Fellaini can't keep carrying him and Rodwell will at least put a shift in even if he isn't playing particularly well.

Perhaps players should move for him more...today the ****e did a number on Coleman n Baines so our out ball was limited..but yes it was crablike

I see what your saying about a new position but your then altering the team just to suit around his bad form

We don't have a consistent formation though at the moment, really. I mean if we did, and we were flying up the table, fair enough. As it stands though we're struggling, and when on form Arteta is our best player, so it would be a shame not to try everything.

Stick him on the left, he can link up with Baines.

I actually don't think that's a bad idea. Osman in the center, Arteta on the left, is better than the reverse at the moment imo.

    Sorry , kid , but I disagree .

2nd half he allowed Screechio to wreak havoc cause HE WAS THE GUVNOR .Left / Right , Forwards . Arteta did OK . WE DID OK .

Our Goalie cost us 2 goals FROM NOWHERE today .

You CAN'T do THAT AT GREY SKULL .

    End of , btw ....

Lovin' your Avatar an' your tag though ...

    Welcome , lad .

I agree with some parts but Mikel just goes missing for large patches, i know what your saying about him dropping so Big hair can Boss the game but Mikel is a quality player and this season it just hasent shown

You saying himself and the team where OK is the same problem we have had all season against lower quality teams like today he was well just OK

The Howard thing i couldent agree more great shot stopper but his decision making is suspect and i swear hes superglued to that ****ing line of his

Also cheers for the welcome lid

You can blame Howard if you want but where were the defenders for the clearance to Moron-ass and when the miss hit shot came in how come no one else reacted?

This is spot on, and unfortunately brings us full circle in this threrad back to Arteta: for their first goal the ball fell to Meireles on the edge of the box...nearest man to him? Arteta. He just ambles sideways toward Meireles hoping the outrushing Baines would get a block in. Slothlike.

He's just not switched on at the moment for the whole 90 minutes. And I'd swerve the suggestion he goes LM. He'd slow our movement on that flank dramatically. .

I thought he did a lot better today, not the level I'd expect of him, but he's improving. Because of this I think it'd be a bad idea to drop him, his confidence is coming back slowly and same with his all round play. He's still lacking heart and fight unfortunately. I think within a few games he'll be nearing his best again... I HOPE!
