    Jan Mucha

The Times are reporting that we have signed a pre-contract agreement with Slovakian goal keeper Jan Mucha for him to join in the summer. He's 26 years old and currently plays for Legia Warsaw.

    - My new club, unfortunately, did not want to pay me any money, knowing that ends in June, my contract was one of the conditions for signing the contract - adds goalie.

We seem to have a few freeebies lined up this summer.

    Beckford, Mucha, Kilgallen?, Senderos?

Nice to see Moyes doing his business early rather than rushing around at the end of the window. You can just imagine where we'd be if we got a good start to seasons.

But many of them are pre-contracts and its easy for the player OR club to get out of. Would rather we payed a small amount and got them now tbh. It's all well and good saying that we have 3-4 players coming in the summer but then what happens if they dont come? We get pissed off and Moyes will have to look at other targets.

If they're the kind of person that gets out of such agreements then they aren't Everton men.

Well said Bruce. I know Grayson came out saying these pre-contract agreements arn't binding but I can't remember any instances where players have backed out of them. Not saying there arn't any but can anyone think of an example?

    Jan Mucha

I'm Legia Warsaw fan. It's true that Jan Mucha has signed pre contract with Everton.
Good piece of bussiness for Everton. Mucha is great goalkeeper.

Hi Zibi welcome to the forum He'll have a tough time displacing Tim Howard who is also a top notch keeper. What would you say are Jan's main strengths as a goalkeeper? Does he have any weaknesses in his game?

    Hi StDomingosGringo

Thank you very much for your welcome.
First of all I'm sorry for my English. I live near Warsaw and watch Legia regularly.
Jan Mucha is next after Artur Boruc (Celtic Glasgow) and Lukasz Fabianski (Arsenal) who is leaving our club.
Let me compare Mucha to Boruc. Very similar abilities. If you remember Artur from one or two years back then Mucha is the same. He is great shotstopper, excellent in one on one, good reflex and stong nerves. Very brave man. Like Artur and Fabianski he is worse with the high balls (passes from right and left). But... worse does not mean bad. In comparison to Boruc he is very stable personality. Intelligent man.
Competition to Tim Howard? I believe he is no worse or even better. From time to time I watch Premier League games + Celtic Glasgow games and I'm sure Jan fits Brittish football.

    I hope this helps you.

Hello I'm from Slovakia. I dont watch Polish league but I guess he is doing well as he won award for best keeper in Polish league.

He was really great in WCQ and will be definitely Slovak No. 1 on upcoming World Cup. So you can watch him there. His manager said that 15 teams were trying to get him (with biggest interest from Glasgow Rangers, Espanyol Barcelona, Tottenham, Stoke City, Wigan, Rennes...)

    Interesting .

    1) It's not a type of deal you can cancel on wait for a higher bidder - everybody in Poland now knows that Mucha will leave for Everton, there's no question about it.
There were two options for him: He could stay in Legia for rest of the season, help them fighting for Polish League title and preparing himself for World Cup (where he should be a starting keeper for Slovakia NT) or leave now for small (250k) fee. He choosed 1st way, probably because of having secure place in Legia, he really doesn't need competition against players like Howard right now.

    2) Very solid goalkeeper, although as I always have my reservations about adjusting to Premier League. Comes from the same club as Boruc and Fabianski (there is a quality goalkeeping coach there, Mr Krzysztof Dowhan) and I rate him higher than Fabianski. But not as high as Boruc, if we would compare him to Boruc from 2-3 years ago.

Sounds like he's a decent player and will make a good addition to the squad.

Even so, I won't be taking too much for granted. Spurs have been strongly linked with Mucha, and Everton fans still have sore memories of Spurs gazumping us over the Kyle Naughton transfer last summer.
