So, almost 18 months to the day we're in the midst of a decent, almost excellent run of form from our 'new' manager, to a lot of us Roberto is still bedding in.

For me, i was desperately disappointed to see a recently relegated manager appointed to our special club. I insisted on him being judged at least 18 months later, not 6 months, not 9 or 12 months. 18, its a standard amount giving to any senior member of a executive team to produce tangible results

I remember distinctly being mortified at him being our new manager, as @ijjysmith says ' support the team, not the manager'. This resonates for two reasons - one ijjy usually talks utter balls, but he was right!

So.

A lot of praise for the previous twelve months work in which we saw the blossoming form of some really tremendous players, Ross will grab all the headlines but to a lot of us its Coleman & Stones who are drawing the attention, if i'm really critical Ross hasn't reached the standards of Coleman & Stones given his potential.

So, what has he achieved? Well, no trophies yet, but he did give the statisticians amongst us a raging boner.

Most points in his first season, got us back into Europe and turned some of our players into World class individuals.

He broke the transfer record, no actually smashed it and smiled at this fact. I'm of the age now where i look lustfully at the players we used to have and what he 'used' to have, players like Kanchelskis and Barmby ( spit ) they were both bought for substantial sums and got us all excited as Blues, we looked at our team sheets and thought ' we can beat teams now', we've got players capable of doing things teams around is have had for a while.

I think what this all means is after a long 10 years of hoping, and being disappointed for a load of different reasons, Evertonians like me have a lot to be excited about, we've got a boss manager, we've got some truly world class players on decent contracts which should sufficiently ensure momentum going forward, we no longer need to sell to fund our survival.

Our survival should be based upon winning games now, not selling our players.

An excellent appraisal! Here, here! Long may it continue.

we signed rom for £18 million, £5million owed to chelsea for the loan fee and £5million we pay if we reach the champion's league in 3 year's. not record signing's , but a step in the right direction.

The clubs public line was 'record' mate. I tend to agree with you, as figures are often distorted anyway.

Good post mate.

I just love the fact that we've lost the pragmatism that had become ingrained and we dare to hope once more. While plainly I'd love us to go and win something, just the very fact that we're not ( unduly ) worrying about the opposition any more, puts a huge smile on my face and going to watch us now, we're thinking about how boss we might be, rather than "can we snatch a quick winner on the break and then park the bus".

For sure that means we sometimes come away disappointed when it doesn't work, but that's so much better than the alternative.

McGeedy was a snip, and Besic will prove to be a great buy too, I'm sure.

Martinez has stamped his signature on this squad. Onwards and upwards.

Its the 'Moyes' Generation, you can't blame them - me? 10 years is a long time for anyone to move on from for being so worried about the future. I still am, but its clear as day now the results he can produce and the optimism is priceless. Whether its misguided or not, its positive.

Despise the man. What did Martinez ever do for us? Gets a record points total, improves the squad, behaves with dignity, is media friendly; ties up potentially excellent players on longer contracts, speaks respectfully about & to everyone, wins matches.

Not the Everton way this.

And then he goes and ignores fans team selections and tactics. Madness.

Day he buys a player like the great Whoppertelli, he can start holding his head up.

Bah!

You're not one to start threads like this, so I applaud you being arsed enough to...strange days.
