![]() ![]() No, dont be daft ![]() Paid up right until end of November, would have been more but with a new host, only joined the other day. We crashed the server, using 30% of the servers usage so it got automatically closed. Some poor woman was having to work on it for hours on end last night because of it and while she was, her diabetic son fainted. Basically, the same problem Kipper, NSNO and the official had.

NSNO only had about half an hour's downtime yesterday, the rest of the time it was taking over a minute to load pages due to there being over a thousand people on there constantly
at just after midnight there were 2,265 people on the official site probably had the most downtime of all the sites, which is a bit disappointing really |

Keeping a website online is fairly easy in high traffic, we have a bigger hosting account that TW for example.
The problem we had (like Kippers forums and NSNO forums late on), is CPU usage due to database.

Our CPU usage was at 70 most of the day (for anyone other than Danny, the usual usage is one!)
That does hurt servers, but it's the physical "in and out" of traffic going through the various switches and drive controllers on the machine. You could have masses of RAM, and 8 CPU's, but if your drives are slow, or they're not linked optimally, then the server will crash I've found having the database on one hard drive and the files on another works well, but again, if these drives aren't linked effectively then it all comes crumbling down a site like the OS should be able to cope with huge numbers though, we've upgraded our system to be able to cope with up to 10,000 concurrent users (although that needed downtime, so we avoided it until about 4am I think) and the costs wouldn't be prohibitive to a multi-million pound, multi-national business |

We struggled because as you know, this is vBulletin and forums are a nightmare usage wise. Oh, and Cal. How you managed to use 5.7% server usage from an avatar i'll never know. 3GB in two days from images....
