He may claim he’s “mellowed”, but Manchester United players shouldn’t start thinking David Moyes will be a breath of fresh air compared to the hairdryer ferocity of Sir Alex Ferguson.

At Everton, there is genuine respect and affection for the manager who has transformed many of the squad’s careers, yet they instantly recognise a narrow-eyed toughness within the Scot.

Just ask Marouane Fellaini.

The Belgium international credits Moyes, who will succeed the retiring Fergie as Manchester United manager this summer, with catapulting him into the top tier of players, and describes him as “good guy”.

Yet he also cheerfully admits to being intimidated by the drive and desire of the man who paid £16million to bring him to the Goodison club.

And he offers a hilarious but chilling case in point, when Moyes was reduced to incandescent fury after Fellaini head-butted Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross during a game in December, earning a three-match ban at a crucial stage of the season.

Moyes was so angry, he made the Belgian train all over Christmas with the kids even though he was suspended, and even dragged him in on December 25 itself.

But that wasn’t the worst moment, as Fellaini attests.

“He is a decent man, a great manager, but believe me he can be tough. If you want to win something, to create a good team you have to be hard sometimes with the players - football is like this.

“He can be scary.

“I remember when I was banned after the Stoke game, he gave everyone the day off - everyone: The players, the entire staff - but I came to the training camp to do a training session with him.

“It was just me and him, and it is not easy to go into the camp to face him like that.

“I understood, because I knew I had made a mistake, but you know it’s not easy when you know you have let him down. Just going in there knowing you have to look him in the eye was hard!

“He put me through a tough session... it was a full-on session, running, shooting, passing, everything and very intense, and afterwards I was upset.

“I said afterwards, ‘Arggh, this is bad’, but I am happy when he looked after me, so I understand.”

In explaining the incident, Fellaini can’t suppress a broad smile as he re-lives - even now, five months later - the sweaty feeling of dread that gripped him on his way into training.

Yet he explains it is a measure of the manager, and an example of his desire to get the best out of players in every way possible.

“It was his way of telling me I had let the team down - it is how he is good manager, and he made sure I knew I had to face him,” Fellaini added.

“That way, I knew it was my mistake and I had to make up for it, to try hard to make it up to the team. It didn’t make the journey in to face him any easier though. He is a great manager - he knows when he has to be tough.”

Fellaini recently dyed his hair silver to mark the fundraising efforts of Everton in the Community and the 25th anniversary of the charity, but the next day immediately went back to his natural colour for fear of what his manager would say!

United players may wonder exactly what they are in for next, after enduring Ferguson’s hard-edged approach for so long, but the Belgian star believes the Old Trafford squad are getting a manager with similar outstanding qualities.

And he explained Moyes departs with nothing but good wishes from the Blues squad, for everything he has done for them.

“It is Manchester United - every body wants to manage that club, and he had the big chance, so everybody understands his decision - we are happy for him as he has ambition as well, I think,” he said.

“He was so important to me, he gave me my chance and he has done everything for me. He gave me the confidence to play at this level, I learnt a lot from him.

“Yes, he’s strict! But he’s a good guy, a good manager and every year I progress with him and get to a higher level, so he has been important for me - I can say thank you to him for everything he has done.

Toffees' hammer-blow: Everton fans will miss boss Moyes
Paul Thomas
“There’s no doubt David Moyes is a top manager who deserves to be at Manchester United. Every year with Everton we are in the top six, we have been to finals and we are always challenging.

“Everybody knows Everton don’t have a big squad but that hasn’t stopped him doing such a great job for this club for 11 years... so good luck for him at Manchester United, and we can say while it is a strange feeling he is going, we are all really happy for him.”

As Fellaini explained, Moyes possesses a fierce ambition to go with his driving desire to win, and in acknowledging that fact he perhaps offered in the process a clue to his own future.

The midfielder has three years left on his current contract, but has a clause which allows him to leave for £23million, and is a target for top European clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal... and perhaps even Man United.

And even though he insists he has never been happier than during his time at Goodison, he does want to test himself at the very summit of the club game.

“Look, we accept the manager is ambitious, and it is Manchester United, so we are happy. And I am ambitious too - of course. I have to be to succeed in football,” he explained.

“I am happy at Everton, I have three more years on my contract after this season, so we will see.

“But of course I am ambitious, everybody wants to play Champions League - it is the most important competition for a player, and I am no different.

“We will see what happens.”

EVERTON have a fight on their hands if they are to land Wakaso Mubarak this summer.

The 22-year-old has been an ever-present feature of the Espanyol first team this season, clocking up 30 appearances.

It is thought Everton sent a club scout to run the rule over him during Espanyol's 2-0 defeat against Deportivo La Coruna.

And it seems Espanyol have their hands tied as they look to ease their financial problems.

Spanish paper Marca reports Inter have joined the chase for the Ghana midfielder as Espanyol could be forced to sell centre-back Hector Moreno

Wakaso as they go on to write caught the eye at the African Cup of Nations and has also garnered interest from unnamed clubs in Spain and France too.

The former Villarreal defensive midfielder has netted three times so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, Everton have begun in earnest the interview process to find David Moyes' successor.

We're better than Inter before someone says we won't sign him if Inter are interested. He plays just like Kwadwo Asamoah at Juventuss.

Vote on who you WANT ... not who you think will be appointed.

Okay Modz ... hopefully you don't merge this or ban me but I really think there is value in a new poll. The old one still has Laudrup leading but nobody is really talking about him any longer and Pereira was somewhat unknown/unrealistic when most of us voted on that one. I know my vote has changed since the first poll and I think a lot of other people are the same. So I think this is worthwhile but if I'm wrong I'll take my medicine.

Try to keep the discussion in the existing thread please lads. Just vote here and discuss there.

(If you lock a thread can people still vote in a poll? I'd be okay with that -- keep the discussion in the existing thread but let us vote here?)

Not sure if this needs a new thread or a thread at all but am getting increasingly confused about Talksport coverage of Everton. I am used to Everton...

Not sure if this needs a new thread or a thread at all but am getting increasingly confused about Talksport coverage of Everton. I am used to Everton being patronised by Match Of The Day and The Mirror and the likes, but without sounding like a conspiracy theorist or whatever Talksport seems close to hostile to us. Hardly an hour goes by without someone saying that Fellaini, Baines and Jagielka are leaving. Not 'might be leaving'.. definitely leaving. They had half hour discussion on how it would be good for the league for most players to stay where they were for the close season, and that Suarez and Bale probably would, then ten minutes later it was the usual stuff about four or five Everton players who were on their way.
It is mentioned constantly that we are in the sh*t and will plummet to our natural place soon. No Evertonian has ever come on that I am aware of to express an alternative to this and a supposed blue has just been on saying we need to get real and employ someone as manager who fits our lowly image. Easy to stop listening but there is no other station with rolling sports news. Maybe they are like this with everyone outside the big four or five, but would like to know if anyone has ever got a message read out or anything on there that contradicts their warped view.

Champions Manchester United earned a record £60.8m in television revenues for the 2012-13 season, more than any of their Premier League rivals.

United were the most televised club, with 25 of their 38 matches broadcast.

Manchester City's second place finish saw broadcast income fall 4% to £58.1m, while bottom club QPR received £39.7m.

A new three-year broadcasting deal starting in August will allow next season's bottom side to earn more than this year's winners.

Television revenues will increase for all clubs next season after the Premier League's broadcast rights were sold for £3.018bn for seasons 2013-14 to 2015-16, an increase of £1.77bn.

The figure does not account for overseas rights, which are still under negotiation, and such a sharp rise in revenue prompted several managers and chairmen to emphasise the importance of staying in the league.

Relegated Wigan, Reading and QPR will all receive an increased parachute payment, while next season's league winners are expected to receive close to £100m in broadcast earnings.

In total, the Premier League's 20 clubs received more than £972m from domestic and overseas television rights in 2012-13.

Half of all domestic broadcast revenue is split evenly among the league's clubs, with a quarter of the money paid according to a team's Premier League position at the end of the season and the final 25% depending on how often a team is televised.

Despite finishing third, Chelsea (£55m) earned less than fourth-placed Arsenal (£57.1m) and fifth-placed Tottenham (£55.8m) because fewer of their games were televised.

Arsenal and Liverpool were televised 22 times each, with Tottenham live on 21 occasions and Chelsea just 16.

Fulham, Norwich City, Reading, Southampton, Stoke, Swansea City, West Brom and Wigan Athletic were the least televised clubs, appearing live on 10 occasions each.

All overseas revenue is evenly split and this year accounted for a payment of £18.9m to each club.

Of the sides promoted last summer, West Ham (£48.7m) earned the biggest share of broadcast revenue courtesy of their 10th place finish.

Both Everton and Aston Villa appeared on television four more times in 2012-13 than in their previous campaigns, prompting both to benefit from a £2.9m rise in revenue. Newcastle United's 16th place finish led to a £9m fall in their share.
Thinking about getting an ST next season....not sure if there's a certain date where you can buy on up until? For example would I be able to get one after the first few games have started, or I would I have to buy one before the season begins?

Thanks y'all

Okay, as i did not watch the match live, and the best highlights I can get hold of are the ones on the dailymail (yes, I know...), I am often mis-lead on who played well etc. For this last game of the season, Naismith started, and not only that, he seemed to take his goal with actual class, and did not seem that gash otherwise. Is this because he was playing behind the striker, sort of CF? I mean, he looked like a footballer!
