Taking issue with the Liverpool Echo
Copy of email to Editor of the Echo
Mark, I feel I must take issue with the report in yesterday's Liverpool Daily Post and Echo entitled: "Everton made it easy for us, says...Benitez" Liverpool Daily Post.co.uk - Liverpool FC - Liverpool FC News - Everton made it easy for us, says Liverpool FC manager Rafael Benitez I hate to sound pedantic but I must question the veracity of this statement. I can find no reference to Mr Benitez making reference to the word "easy". However you may wish to protest journalistic licence but, without wishing to question outright either the reporter or the headline writer's knowledge of the Use of English, I must either assume one of three scenarios are in play here: Either: The person responsible fails to appreciate the subtle difference between "easy" and "easier" Or: It's a deliberate dig at Everton by the aforementioned person responsible for the splash Or: It is simply casual journalistic licence. Although I understand Mr. Benitez needs no encouragement to belittle Everton the words you have quoted him as using - namely "easier" suggests, with a degree of candour that Liverpool's task was made easier by Everton's tactics - as opposed to the headline banner which implies something of both an insult (no evidence of this is clear from Mr. Benitez's words) on either his part or just the reporter taking great delight in the nuance of the word "easy" - which suggests the challenge that Everton offered to Liverpool in the match was neglible. |

This paper is not fit for shit roll. It's red through an through. For the last 5 or so years the cheif Everton reporter was a red shite who had, had a season ticket over there for years.. He has now got "the job of my dreams" as the cheif writer for the shite. I'd rather buy the sun!!! |

Lets be honest, they will just laugh at that and rightfully so. Even if they are fair and unbiased, even more if they are rs.

The Echo footy reporters are trash. Let's face it. Who's ever gone on to anything better after writing for that rag? McNulty is trundled out by the BBC for some Merseyside oriented piece that is just generalised bullshit for national consumption and which bears no relation to reality as we know it. Bascombe was picked up by News of the Screws. Basically, if you can write in a concise fashion and trawl the net/radio phone-ins efficiently to gauge fan mood, you're in.

Maybe you sleep for 35 hours at a time and have just gotten into an unfortunate Echo-buying rhythm because of it, but otherwise I think you're just being paranoid. |

What was the name of that guy who was the Everton journalist for that rag for years, only to recently admit he was a Liverpool fan and now writes for them?, saying "When your boyhood club come calling, you don't say no?"
