Come Thursday this week, it will be 21 years to the day since my son,who posts on here as Big Dunc the Funk, made his first appearance (almost certainly in a blue shirt) in the world at St. Richards Hospital, Chichester. Mrs. Whittle, conscious as ever of the pressure on the Health Service, nearly did the decent thing and give birth in the ambulance, clearly a case of Big Dunc arriving just at the right moment.
Me? Well I was hurtling down the A3 having received a 5.00am call that left no room for error; "you'd better come now!, be quick!" Sadly I was in Northampton at the time. Had I got there for the big moment itself I might have made the difference, but too late the cry...."Congratulations, you have a beautiful Evertonian!" Indeed we did.
Not a scouser,but a truer blue you will not find,who lists the best moment of his life so far as c1.45pm Saturday January 10 1998 in the away dressing room at Selhurst Park,when the big fella himself asked a very nervous Everton mascot, "Whats yer name Kid?" and later led Howards boys out to a 3-1 win.
Post here to wish him a happy 21st. He is a very fine son indeed.
