04/05 season

This may have been in the back of some of your heads, but does anyone else see some similarities between our current form and that season. we just barely grinded out our last 3 results, it feels like a similar fashion to the season we qualified for the champions league, it wasn't pretty but we scrapped our way through and got it done.

i know that season, our success was largely due to teams around us underachieving, but still, i can't help but think about it when i see the way we're playing at the moment. maybe pretty football isn't the answer

I thought we played some great stuff in the 04/05 seasont to be honest. We had balance and we mixed it up well. We played good football and we had players who could also make the long ball game work when we needed it.

Plus Tommy Gravesen was world class for 6 months, he was the best midfielder in the League alongside Lampard.

i don't mean i didn't think we played that well, i just don't think too many of our performances ended up on highlight reels, to be honest i wasn't all that big of a fan at the time, so i didn't see too much of it, but we didn't exactly score tonnes of goals and it seemed we more grinded out each win.

Wasn't that the year we had an inordinate amount of 1-0 wins to Everton?

Something like 5 or 6 in a row at some point?

The Football that season was shocking but effective.

I'm not really arsed if our Football is shocking anyway, as long as it is effective and gets us into Europe every season, arsed.

Moyes masterminded the 4-5-1 that season, at times some of the football was great does anyone remember the Norwich game away finished 3-2 to us i nearly had a heart attack that game.

It wasn't shocking, we played some good stuff at times. We also mixed it up very well which made us hard to play against. In the second half of the season we where quite shocking to be honest.

I do care about the football personally, I want to be entertained at times. I don't expect Arsenal football but I want some passes stringed together atleast.

I think there are phases of every season when we play like this. Remember last season when we were without Cahill?

We went from flowing, passing movement to long balls and struggling to retain possession in about a week. But, despite playing badly, we kept pulling results out of the bag, plenty of 1-0's then as well, and we didn't slide down the table.

1-0 to Everton. I cleaned up that year on our football prediction game partly by putting us down for a 1-0 win every match.

I would like to see more entertaining football, but at the moment it is more important to 'grind out' results and build some confidance then we can play some more entertaining football.

Didn't we qualify for the champions league with a negative goal differance?

Only Villa and Man City have a positive goal difference outside to the top 4.
