There have been many interesting articles about this lad in the local media laying out his expectations and long term intentions. In each and every article he has claimed

He loves playing in the Prem

He loves being in England

He always wanted to play in the Prem

He intends to be a Prem player for years to come.

Hasn't anyone told him that he signed to stay at Benfica until 2010 and that signing took place just two or three weeks ago. Is it possible that someone said to him sign this but it means nothing, not that player contracts do have that much weight, or was that entire 'signing for Benfica' a con in order that his loan to us could go through.

This guys career is shrouded in mystery........................I hope that we don't find ourselves getting into lumber for being involved in anything 'untoward' but I am suspicious;)

I smell a rat. But enough about Rob.

Back to the post, something very dodgy is going on there. Very good point Monty, suppose we will see at the end of the season. Just as long as he doesnt put himself in the shop window and get snatched at the end of the year.

He scored for Portugal under 21s tonight. He has an eye for goal, as distant improvement on our midfield at present.

But did he really sign for them?? I have read a few stories saying Benfica were trying to force our hand by saying that, along with 'He has already signed for Everton on loan' This is deffo very cloudy deal. Hopefully we get him in the summer providing he is as good as his hype has made him out to be. And if he is that good, 12mill would be fair I suppose. It is about time we at least looked like we played with the big boys financially.

I would think he must have signed something with Benfica because we have signed a loan agreement with them although his last club was Portsmouth. This whole can of worms will be exposed at some future date buit I don't want us involved in it.

See, I get the impression from Benfica either he is refusing to play for them or they don't want them. Trying to say we signed him until 2010 means they will command great fees in negotiations, if he only has 18 months left they don't have as much power.

I think they are trying to pull one over on us, but they obviously haven't heard of David Moyes!!!!

I suspect its more to do with those who own the other half be that heads or tails:p

By gum monty you've turned into Alex Young. I bow down to your greatness.

I want to see Fernandes play and show himself in our uniform with our lads. I think he will have a positive influence on our players and hopefully our tactics.

Monty Ossie really didn't play to badly just isn't strong in the challenge. I finally watched the whole game and Stubbs & Yobo solid in the center and Lescott played well on the left.

My take we could use two more instrumental players with flair and holds the ball instead of passing way to quickly or punting it down the field. Can Fernandes be one of these I hope so. I feel very encouraged by what I have picked up on.

Sorry Mike, its not like us to disagree but I believe Ossie has been below par for most of this season. He should be kept, I'm not suggesting to sell him, but he should only be a squad player and not an automatic choice. The lad will try his best for you all day but his abilities and physique are limited for the part he plays in the team.

Evening gents, thanks for the pointer Mont.

Im not sure contracts are worth the paper they are written on nowadays, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe he'll fit, maybe he wont, but time will tell, and throught the hype, I cant wait to see the forums take on his ability when he does get a shot.

Are you saying they're a one man side Rob:) :) :) :)

of course you're right but as we won the last game we must have some chance to crow over them, you know what an Aussie is like:) :) :) :)

the first priority during summer has to be howard, if we could sign him for the rest of his career I really believe we won't have to worry about a goalkeeper for years and years.

fernandes.. well who knows, I just want to see him play and see how it goes before I say keep him.

Agreed.

Howard is a must sign. Not at stupid money like 8M but if we could get him at the most, between 4-5M and preferably less, I think it would be a great acquisition.

I'm looking forward to the first match Fernandes plays and his impact on how we play.

I don't think either of them would be interested. Man U have plenty in midfield, and he isn't Spanish, so the ****e won't be interested.

Manuel Fernandes is still in line for his first Everton appearance this weekend, after returning to the UK on Thursday.

Fernandes, signed on loan in January, was on Portugal Under-21 duty on Tuesday and scored in their 3-0 win over Estonia.

But despite the Portuguese side facing another game, against the Czech Republic, on Thursday, Fernandes has been granted permission to return to Merseyside and prepare for the visit of Blackburn this weekend.

He was an unused substitute in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool last week.

Yay, Cant wait to see him play!!!!

Don't worry guys, this is what happened.
Benfica, or a newspaper linked with them, generated a rumour that he had signed a contract, or came a bit early you might say, and so excited and expectant that he would sign they reported it before he had. Either way, he has not signed a new contract with Benfica (remember this is just what I've read, and it makes sense to me). Benfica then agreed a £6 million fee (their half of the player) to which they could sell to Everton at the end of the season, then we would have to bargain our way with Media Sports Investment to the total 100%. To be honest, that Media Sports group scare me more than anything, I mean ridiculous, could you have imagined that in the not too distant past? players being owned by companies? clubs being called "franchises" (*cough*LIVERPOOL TAKEOVER!*cough*), well neither could I.
Back to the topic; let's just hope Manuel hits it big in Goodison, I'm really looking forward to seeing him agaisnt Blackburn, hope he starts...!

Not to be a Shabs, but Hughes defo won the tactical battle in the cup i hope Moyes has learned from it, I hope the players dont take their foot of the pedal thinking Blackburn have injury problems.

Lets hope Fernandes giver us something different and a varience in our play that may upset blackburns gameplan and expectations of how we will play!

Disagree, we had chance after chance after chance after chance, we just couldn't score, that is not winning a tactical battle..

i was very very impressed with the kid, he looks real quality, inspired the team when he stepped up a pace, admittedly he fizzled towards the end but he aint fully match fit and he did play midweek which will have taken alot out of him, looks like a good prospect and should he continue to play as well as he did first half, id love to sign him permanently

Very assured performance by Manuel yesterday, was very pleased with him, he looks skillful and quick with good tackling and a good distribuitor of the ball.

Royal Blue Jersey

Don't get ahead of yourself Hayee, although Manny put on a great display. My worry was the pace and physical side to the game but he performed admirably in those areas. He has a brilliant first touch and his distribution is ambitious and excellent. He got a great applause early on when he held off several rough challenges and nonchalently laid the ball off to Neville. Should have perhaps scored, but put himself about and put in some great counterattacking passes.
Looks a player.

If we have the believed 25m, then I say go to 10m for Manny, that would leave us plenty to sort out left mid, right back, left back and forward relacements for Beattie. Errr 25m might not be enough......

I would not give more than 8mil. He is still not proven and if he can't get regular starts with his Parent club then his price should not be so inflated. I am with suits here, 8 mil max.

I can't help believe that the guy plays in spurts, he is too lazy for our needs. I would only go ahead and sign him if I honestly believed he could pick up his work rate, I have my doubts.

Maybe that's why Benfica don't want him as a player, maybe that's why they want him as a profit making asset.

I hope Mrs Pavlov realises the significance of our signatures Gaz:lol:

Re MF, that is exactly what has happened with the lad. I believe that if we did sign him it would have to be without that baggage. How can he set a career when half the decisions surrounding him are made elsewhere. The lad has got himself into the position of a slave, a comodity being touted to the highest bidder, all that glitters is not gold mate.

Remember that he's still only young. Look at Ronaldo when he first came here. I see some similarities between the two. They're both very talented but both had a tendancy to dwell on the ball and try and do too much. With time and coaching Ronaldo has learnt when to pass and his end result is now much better. I'm sure that Fernandes can learn likewise.

I know exactly what you mean Bruce but, and this is the rub, he is not worth the silly figures bandied about, he is lazy on the park against which he has supreme skills, when he cares to use them. Any decisions surrounding the guy have to be filtered through a third party, sorry that is unacceptable, he cannot say if he wants to stay. This type of 'players contract' should be nipped in the bud now, agents are getting too much already without clubs encouraging deals like this.

Where has the lazy thing come from?? The games I have seen he has worked and worked. I think his fitness levels are still not up to par, but improving. I recall in the mach-day thread someone said he was being lazy, but I haven't seen it, he has been working quite a bit.

to be honest mate, he does only play in fits and starts, but I think a lot of that is down to not having the maturity or match knowledge of how to be involved more.

It may be part of their playing style, some people works differently when their without the ball. Having not run all over the park trying to chase the opponent for the balls does not mean he is lazy. Nobody is capable of doing that for a full 90mins, not even carsley or gattuso. I only regard lazy as someone who lost the ball, stand there and whine with hands on hips rather than chasing it back.
