An exciting little thread here.
I want honest answers. The question is which player do you associate with the most, personality, footballing attributes, etc. Don't just say your favourite player because you want to be as cool as them. Try to use the current squad, but I'll allow former players as well if you can justify it.
Personally I'm torn between Neville and Jagielka.
Bruce Wayne
17-03-2009, 07:35 PM
Probably Osman.
ToxtethBlue
17-03-2009, 07:37 PM
Leighton Baines.
Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian
17-03-2009, 07:39 PM
the one and only Peter Reid.
i was more of a duncan mckenzie in my prime though, used to get long sleeve shirts and hold the cuffs, nutmeg the local carthorse endlessly and evade the kicks he aimed at me, jump minis and throw golfballs extreme distances.
from the current i would say fellaini on account of once having "big hair" actually j.p.k. in the hair dept. once upon a time, very valderama/gazzas lion mane weave it was

AvdM, we're both Dutch and we both spend a lot more time in the boozer than on the pitch.

Cant choose any current players because nobody is like Trevor Steven. I, in my playing days played very similar to him, an old fashioned winger that went beyond opponents and put in crosses from the bye-line.

Always play right back, so I guess Hibbert.
daza_1973
17-03-2009, 08:00 PM
Bob Latchford - when I get forward :D:D
Tony Thomas (on a bad day) - when I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing i.e defending ::P

Tim Cahill

17-03-2009, 08:06 PM
Cahill for me...A little feisty and gets under the other teams skin. Pops up with the odd goal and has a good engine.
Got a game tomorrow...I'll score...I'm sure of it! (y)

I suppose I'm like a bigger and slightly more cultured Ratters.
I say Ratters because in spite of being in pundits parlance 'a big unit' I'm like poo off a digging implement and a bit competitive. Been a while since I was second to a 40:60 ball, never mind 50:50.
Like to think I'm a bit more comfortable on the ball than Kev though, and at 6'2 and 16 st, a bit bigger.
******* ace me (y)
and I'm as modest and aware of my own limitations as Big Vic

In a footballing sense I'm very much Brett Angell.
As for who I associate myself with in other ways I'd have to say Joe Parkinson, because he grew up near me and I've got drunk many a time with his old man talking about the final.
Gerard_Francis
17-03-2009, 08:31 PM
Andrei Kanchelskis
I was a fast right winger of similar build, however unlike him I had poor ball control & general lack of composure near goal.
Tbh I was much better at athletics
SLAVEN BILIC
17-03-2009, 08:31 PM
slaven bilic for me. great at his day job then goes home and kicks ass with his band. and we've both got our ears pierced.

Cahill or Osman.
Welton Toffee
17-03-2009, 08:57 PM
Probably Jags.
I tend to just sit in defence and smash anyone/thing that comes near me (y)

I was a cross between Kevin Kilbane and Lee Carsley.
Im a Ste Pienaar but i've got a much better left foot than him. I'm same size as him, he's probably taller. I'm a striker/winger so i'd say i was him but with a better eye for goal.
Great thread by the way!

Id say a cross between big nev and howard!
Big nev coz Im a little on the fat side now, and howard coz I really take every goal conceeded quite personally! Like tonight I got beaten when a guy poked one through the legs at 5 a side and he laughed and shouted nuts! Pretty much told him if he laughed again Id bend his legs enough so no one could do it to him!(n)

18-03-2009, 12:51 PM
Carsley. Defensive mid, quite strong, who likes to shoot - but rarely gets it on target.
Upper Sturry Sherbets
18-03-2009, 04:45 PM
I'll say Joe Max Moore, on account of nationality, but other than that it's hard to say.
Maybe a Derek Mountfield or Graham Stuart.
Gufty

Mixture of Hibbert and Osman.
I don't give a crap what the boo boys have to say about me.
I have a job to do and I intend to do it to the best of my abilities, and want no thanks at the end of it.

Id have to go , or me ego would , for Bally . But if you asked me Ma , or me ex bird theyd probably say , Hibbo / Nevile / Gerrard ( the Goalie ) / Hottiger / Cleland /Keeley , etc
Theyd probably be more accurate .

Scottoffee
19-03-2009, 12:37 PM
Phil Jagielka.
Played midfield for my old team but have been played all across the back 4 for my new one, usually in the middle or on the right - but just got home from an evening at left-back.
Also, spent the last 10 min in goal to give keeps a run about.

Probably Li Tie.
cuz I'm asian and cack at football.
Howard. Despite my size (68"), I'm a decent keeper. When I play the outfield my game is a bit like Baines, I usually play the wing.
teppic
20-03-2009, 03:28 PM

Definatly Jags.
Forget all your fancy tricks and rubbish like that, i do my job and i do it well.
That ball is not going in the back of our net and i'll stop anyone who thinks it will.
I just get on with it, i don't look for the glory i'm an unsung hero while others get all the plaudits.
Don't look quite as sexy with a 'tache though.

When you were writing this, were you standing on the top of a mountain with some really uplifting classical music playing in the background? Coz of you wern't, you should have been.
